Acres of Land Concord: Sweet and Satisfying Red WineSep 27 '06 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Acres of Land Concord is a sweet red wine that is smooth and easy drinking Just west of the city of Richmond, Kentucky, lies a winery that hasnt yet made a name for itself but is slowly growing in popularity among locals and among travelers. This winery is relatively small but it includes several acres of land where grapes are grown en masse to produce the wine. The small business I am referring to is Acre of Land Winery and one of its many tasty products is Acres of Land Concord, a sweet red wine bottled in 2003. Basic Characteristics of This Wine: Acres of Land Concord Wine is burgundy/purple in color with an aroma of grapes, flowers, and mixed berries. This wine has a subtle scent that requires some swirling in the glass in order to be released. This wine is sweet and it offers flavors of red grapes, a small amount of raspberry, and a small amount of blackberry. The sweet flavor helps mask the taste of alcohol and keeps the wine smooth and easy- drinking. There is only a dash of bitterness in the finish and it quickly gives way to the taste of sweetness. Acres of Land manufactures this wine for sale only in the state of Kentucky. It contains sulfites and 11.2 percent alcohol by volume. A 750 ml bottle retails for about $10. Product/Company Information: To learn more about this winery, visit the company web page, acresoflandwinery.com. The web page offers a few photos of the winery, the surrounding land, and the facilities. The address is 2285 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond, KY- just six miles west of Richmond from exit 87. The phone number for the winery is 859-328-3000. Final Thoughts: Acres of Land Winery is a business I never knew existed until last year. I travel on Interstate 75 more than any other interstate in the United States but I did not know there was a winery near Richmond Kentucky until I noticed some brand new signs on the side of the Interstate, pointing the way to Acres of Land. There were two signs back then (brown colored signs to designate a point of interest) with one facing the northbound lanes and one facing the southbound lanes. Today, there are four signs and they have had a tremendous impact on the popularity of Acres of Land Winery. Like I said, I did not even know this winery existed until I saw the signs on the road and had it not been for these signs, it is highly unlikely I would have ever discovered this winery. Im not much of a wine drinker but when I do decide to partake in the fruit of the vine, I generally prefer sweeter wines to dry. And Acres of Land Winery is a great place to drink for those who like sweet wine. Most of the companys products are sweet and this Concord wine is no exception. It offers a taste that is like mixed fruit jelly with a small amount of alcohol added. It isnt like most other red wines and I was surprised when I took a sip for the first time. I knew it would probably be sweet, given the reputation of Acres of Land Winery. But it turned out to be even sweeter than expected, with only a small amount of bitterness in the finish that attempts to balance the taste but falls a little bit short. With a sweet taste like this, Acres of Land Concord makes a good choice as an after dinner drink or as a dessert wine to serve with fruity desserts. There is almost no astringency at all with this wine, making it a good companion to many occasions and a good choice for those who dont appreciate the bitter or sour taste common in so many wines. Acres of Land Concord wine has received a couple of awards in local competitions. It won a Bronze Medal at the 2005 Florida State Fair International Wine Competition and another Bronze Medal at the 2005 Tasters Guild International Wine competition. It hasnt won any big- time awards yet. But this could change as more and more people become familiar with this company and its wine. Acres of Land Winery is small, with an annual production around 4,000 cases. Thanks to the highway advertising, however, this figure is increasing. I have liked most of the wine sampled from Acres of Land and if you have a sweet tooth, there is a good chance you will like it, too. Im going to rate Acres of Land Concord 4 stars out of 5. It is a good- tasting, sweet, fruity wine that makes a nice choice for consuming with desserts. It goes down smoothly with little or no bite. |
