| walkerpkw's Full Review: Price Pfister Stainless Steel Kitchen Faucet - Pul... |
Shopping:
I didn't feel my old faucet was worth repairing so I decided to replace it. I like the simple style and versatility plus the WKP-533s is similar to my older faucet. Both Lowes and Home Depot offer hundreds of makes and models online but I needed something quicker. I also wanted to have a closer look and a hands-on feel before spending $100 plus.
Comparisons:
As I approach the huge display of kitchen faucets I found what I was looking for. Within a few seconds I spot the WKP-533s. I pulled one out of an open box to see how it felt. Very solid with -0- play in the handle plus the head swiveled with precision. Priced at $128 the WKP-533s is in the mid range yet compared with the higher priced competitors brands it met or exceeded my needs in both quality and features. I stayed away from the lower priced cheap flimsy faucets but also found no need to spend $200 plus for the similar models offered by Kohler, Moen or Delta.
About the WKP-533s faucet:
If you're looking for an attractive utilitarian faucet that's easy to use and versatile then look no further. I found the Price Pfister WKP-533s a better buy compared to the higher priced competitors. Thinking their manufacturing plant was in Pacoima California, that was until 1997. They moved their operations to Mexico then in 1999 sold out to Black & Decker. To say the least I was a little surprised but that explains why on the box it says: "Made in China"
Installation for the D.I.Y.:
I consider myself handy around the house with above average mechanical skills but plumbing can be somewhat of a challenge. Removing the old fixture can be just as easy or difficult. No special tools and simple instructions should yield a hassle free installation. Not me, only a few minor disasters struck. Like the 30 year old hot water valve that wouldn't shut off all the way. As soon as I disconnected the old line hot water gushed everywhere. My kitchen instantly became a sauna so I quickly shut off the outside water-main. After the 1-hour job was completed I determined my wife's a better plumber than me.
Complications:
The only big problem besides getting soaking wet and cleaning up an approximate 15 gallon mess, I recommend having new "cone washers" for reconnecting your hot and cold "spiral tube" water supply lines. These washers are not included and chances are you won't be able to reuse your old ones.
In operation:
The pull-out head has an approximate 4 ft reach and can be easily switched from spray or bubble stream. Although advertised for use with 2 or 4 hole sinks the included decorative deck plate did not completely cover the 2 end openings (a very small 1/16 of an inch air-gap, towards the back). The WKP-533s is performing very well with the spray setting being twice the output as my old faucet and more than I actually need. The shut off mechanism works very well with zero drops afterword. What I like most is the effortless force needed to turn the water both on and off. Like it had "power assist" or something. The stainless-steel outer housing cleans up easy and should retain it's good looks for many years.
Warranty:
Hang onto your receipt! Price Pfister will guarantee this faucet for life, or as long as you can prove you bought it. I have discovered later, after making this purchase there are 4 of 4 comments made from consumers with this model that noticed the same problem. About a year later the flow became restricted. After disassembling and cleaning the most common clogged part, the aerator wasn't at fault. One consumer said he removed a check valve. I would recommend calling their toll free 800 support line. I don't know and instruction booklet doesn't give the hours of operation. As of the time I'm writing this it's Monday 11:30 am on the West coast. I called and got an English speaking voice saying "Thank you for calling Price Pfister customer support. Due to a heavy call please call back again later"
