This is for the Lamers, if you're not a loser then you can skim through this part
So lets say that you are one of those anti-Microsoft folks out there who are too lazy to learn how to write the 20 pages of C++ to make sound drivers to hear a squeak of audio from Linux. Well well well. I guess all that work just went in the trash bin. It is now time to format your Linux partition and upgrade your FAT 32 one to NTFS. The only reason I would figure to keep on using Linux / Unix is if you are running a server for an E-commerce site, but even if you're doing that sorta thing I would opt more to running Windows 2000 Advanced Server or just wait for Windows .NET Server platform. Also if you still want to be against Microsoft products you could do me a favor and quit babelling about how much of a retard you are here on Epinions. And I am more than certain that you will be made fun of at UNIX message boards 100% more than you will here. You have two choices, 1. Go to the bookstore / library and crack open those books and learn some stuff, or 2. Load Windows XP Professional on your computer and save some time and hassle in your life.
This is the XP Profession Review.
I have been running Windows XP for one l year and counting. I believe the first build I installed was Beta 1. Since then I have been impressed at how much of an excellent job the Microsoft team has done at making Windows an efficient, stable, and the easiest operating system to use next to Palm OS, ha ha ;) . Let me make a list of the features that come in XP
1. Stable OS built around the NT kernel featured in Windows 2000.
2. The famous taskbar first featured in Windows 95 has been re-invented by making it more efficient with new features such as grouping of similar tasks to save space. If you purchase Plus for XP, there are options such as having multiple desktops, a media player, and even more. Oh yeah and quick launch is still here as usual.
3. The Start Menu is also re-invented to make it quicker and easier than ever to access frequently use applications. Now you don't have to jerk around to find Help, Network Places, My Computer, Documents, and much more without ever viewing your desktop, Isn't this just amazing! :)
4. Since My Computer, Network Places, and the other guys moved to the start menu, I now have a desktop all to myself. A nice clean surface for a cool image and shortcuts only to programs that I want to see. You can also bring the old guys back by changing a few options.
5. Integrated CD burning has never made it easier to make a CD. Just right click a selection and add files to a layout as you work. Then choose to burn whenever you choose to. Now you don't have to waste time fiddling with other software to burn.
6. Remote Desktop connection is a secure and safe option for connecting to a remote computer. It rescues me when I'm at my dad's house and I need to get some graphics off my computers here at my mom's place. Plus I don't have to carry a CD around with me to have my files. Therefore less recording media bought, less transportation, and more time for work and play.
7. So you think that you are lame at home networking? Wrong! Windows XP features a few simple wizards that make home networking a breeze. It took me 5 minutes to connect both of the computers in my room together and have internet connection sharing enabled on my server.
8. Multimedia friendly. Windows Media Player for Windows XP doesn't give me any BS errors like version 7 did. Now I can enjoy my digital media without hassle, but I prefer Winamp for my audio though ;). Windows Movie maker is a handy program for basic video capture, editing, and compression.
9. The Themes! Add some real color and form to your Windows eXPerience, ha ha. XP comes with Luna, Silver, and Olive themes. But I have a secret to share with only you. Go to http://www.boomgames.com and you can download 75+ new themes and login screens for your computer. I especially like the OS X Aqua, Longhorn, FireXP, and Professional themes. Windows has never been so customizable before! Now without unstable 3rd party applications.
Well this isn't the end of the list but I can't share the full eXPerience for everyone. Only you can be the wise one to make this a full eXPerience, LOL. Sorry that this isn't the best review on Windows XP but I think it works. Below are a few links for you.
