| pilarzmom's Full Review: Orange Glo Wood Floor Polish & Cleaner |
I was happy that our home we bought 2 years ago had hardwood floors on the entire main floor of the house. However, I wasn't too excited about the darker wood. We'd had a light maple floor in our old home and it never really seemed to get dull looking. I noticed with the darker wood, however, that it tended to look less lustrous (perhaps due to different finish). I decided to try out Orange GLO Hardwood Floors and unlike so many others who have reviewed it, I have had excellent results! Product Details This 4-in-1 product with a fresh orange scent from Church & Dwight is designed to clean, shine, protect, and revitalize hardwood floors. It comes in a 24 ounce bottle and doesn't require any mixing or diluting. Just squirt directly on floor and mop. Many consumers have complained about this product, saying it has left a cloudy residue and streaks. Therefore, do test (as they recommend!) on a small area (such a closet) before using. Do NOT use on unsealed, unfinished, waxed or oiled wood, or severely worn floors. Orange GLO also recommends using their own microfiber mop but I found that I could use my Swiffer Sweeper with the dry sweep clothes (not the wet ones) and it worked just fine. I also should point out that I do not use Orange GLO as an everyday cleaning product. I know products like this can build up if used to excess. I sweep and use my Swiffer to pick up dust and dirt and then lightly damp mop where needed to clean up dirt. The kitchen is my high traffic area and I use Orange Glo about twice a month. In the living room I may use only about once a month. My experience Cleaning is not something I like to do, so the easier it is, the more likely I am to do it. Not having to fuss with mixing or diluting was one of the first things that attracted me to this product. After all, I've got roughly 1000 square feet to mop on our main floor! I just squirt Orange GLO on the floor (in a wavy line over about a two-foot area) and then mop in long even strokes. The sweeper cloth stays damp, but not saturated, and I'm able to cover a large section (roughly 6 feet by 6 feet). I take care to mop in sections and not walk over the previously mopped section. If you do, it will leave footprints and you will have to remop. I then let the floor dry and "set" for about 20 minutes before I let any traffic go over it (a good time to send the dog outside or in the basement!) The results for me are simply outstanding! The hardwood floor no longer looks dull and has a nice shine. What's most amazing is that scratches on the floor from the cats and dog really do seem to disappear. Now, granted, these aren't deep scratches. But with two cats and a small dog, we do have our fair share of scratches caused by them running around and chasing each other. But with Orange GLO these scratches seem to get filled in and practically disappear. As for cloudiness or streaking, I am not experiencing any of this. Yes, Orange GLO is a cloudy-looking liquid, but when mopped properly, this cloudiness disappears. For our family the only negative is the smell of Orange GLO can be quite strong and overwhelming, especially if I mop the entire floor at once. It is a fresh orange scent, but it's also got that waxy floor cleaner component to the scent that can cause some to get headaches. I therefore rarely mop all rooms at once as I don't like the overpowering smell. Overall rating If it weren't for the strong scent, I'd give Orange GLO a 5. It really does work well for us. But the scent is a tad bit strong for our family members, so I'll give it a 4 instead as I do wish it were a more subtle scent. We are most amazed with its ability to make scratches disappear and restore a nice shine to our dark hardwood floors.
