The Bottom Line What would you do?

1. What would you do, if your parents had decided how you were going to be, in every way possible? Would you be mad? Would you be happy? Those are the questions we need to ask, to fully understand the severity of this type of action. We need to ask ourselves, if that is something we would have wanted planned for us.
By genetically changing the way a person will become, can deeply effect him/her, in more than one way. As the future continues to bring new and more improved technology, the ability to genetically change an individual is becoming more common. I believe that this technology will cause a split between individuals and groups. Genetic discrimination will come into effect. Each person will be classified by how there parents created them. It would be like the separation between black and whites, only the genetics would make up the discrimination.

2. I do feel though, that deciding the outcome of your child’s genetic make-up can be rewarding in many ways. By deciding, what you think is best, you can give your child the best head start they can get. You can also try and prevent infectious diseases that take the life of children and adults, today.

3. Imagine you are a woman, pregnant with your first child. Your doctor comes to you and gives you the option as to whether have your child be a boy or a girl. What would you do? Would you decide the gender of your child? Or let nature decide? We are all going to become parents someday, or we already have. If you haven’t, would you want to make that choice? If you already are, would you change the outcome of your child? Would you alter their existence, as they are today?

4. Deciding, now, what you would do when you become a parent, or perhaps what you would do in your next pregnancy. It is essential that we look at the topic at a level of a child. Determining now what we are going to do in the future, would be very beneficial, not only for us but for our unborn children.

5. We know that scientists have decoded the human gene and now are able to determine why certain individuals have the diseases they have. They also are trying to find a way to stop the process of diseases such as: cancer, Parkinson’s disease, autism, and many other serious illnesses. I believe very strongly in the cure for all those diseases and if we have to alter our genes in some way, I am ok with that. But if you are altering those genes for the purposes of creating the perfect human, I am totally against it! It is wrong and unjust. Who are you to play god?
