I just got the fifth season of Smallville in the mail, and I'm eager to watch it, but one nagging worry keeps gnawing at me. I don't think Jonathan Kent is going to make it through the season. I know, that's what I thought with season four too; I even had my doubts about season three. But of all the characters, Jonathan is in the most precarious position. I don't have to worry too much about Clark, Martha, Lois or Lana, and while I certainly do worry about Lex, it's for other reasons. Lionel and Chloe are wild cards, but Jonathan's death seems like a prerequisite for the conclusion of the series, and something they've been building up to since the beginning of the third season. I hope I'm wrong, but if he doesn't make it to the sixth season there's nothing I can do about it now. Anyway, here's to one of my favorite TV dads, doomed as he may be...
