| greywanderer's Full Review: US Cellular Mobile Phone Service in Milwaukee/Raci... |
I have absolutely no complaints about US Cellular's cellular service. I have looked at all of the competitors’ plans a million times because I want a sexier phone... but there is no reason to switch.
For a year and a half I was on the 35$ 300 minute regional plan. It was great. Almost everywhere (except the way north) in Wisconsin was covered and the rest of the Midwest was 25 cents a minute. I don't mean the major cities. I mean everywhere you could think of I got digital coverage (Yes... Cobb, Wisconsin has digital coverage too). I think national roaming was 50 cents a minute, which is pretty good.
US Cellular’s Regional plan has other advantages. 1st minute incoming is free. I'm not sure if you know this but every time your phone rings it is a minute charged. On the regional plan (and I don't know of many other companies who do this) this minute is excluded. With the regional plan, long distance is free wherever you are. Most companies will charge you for the roaming and tack on long distance charges.
A minor plus is that their voice mail is free and has some handy features. US Cellular does not have a paging capability. I have complained about this. I don't see a remedy in the future.
Recently, my wife made me switch to the Midwest Local plan so she could join my service (switching from Verizon). It works out well. We pay $30 for 300 minutes and $15 to add an extra phone a month. We get an additional 1500 minutes to spend on nights and weekends. Oh... I should probably mention this in bold (if I could...)
US CELLULAR'S NIGHTS START AT 7:00 PM!! Not this 10 PM crap. Who calls after 10 PM on weeknights? The 7:00 PM nights and weekends is why I will never ever switch.
Back to the previous paragraph...
With Midwest Local plan you lose some of the perks that you would receive with the Regional Plan. You lose these features:
1st minute incoming free.
The discounted roaming I talked about before. I think every call out of the area is 75 cents a minute.
It is still a wonderful plan.
Here is one tip. Don't do any customer service actions with the store salespeople. They're salespeople, not customer service people. Dial *611 and talk to a Customer Service rep. I love them. I think I've only ever talked to one bad rep. I called back and everything was fine.
