Since my husband Bill and I moved to our new home in Georgia, we've found ourselves shopping at Lowe's quite often. For instance, the day before we moved into our house, we went to the local Lowe's to shop for a new refrigerator, since our house didn't come with one. I found a model I liked, along with several other necessary items for setting up housekeeping. Part of the reason we chose to shop at Lowe's for our new fridge was because they offered free delivery, set up, and haul away of major appliances. The sales associate was very helpful in setting up our delivery for the next day, which was very convenient for us. The guys showed up bright and early and had our new refrigerator humming in no time. I was left with a good impression of Lowe's and its delivery service.
Several weeks later, our second of three household goods shipments arrived. It was stuff we had left in storage while we were living in Europe. I was eagerly awaiting this particular shipment because it included our washer and dryer and we were sorely in need of a laundry day. But when Bill went to set up our washer and dryer, he had a major problem with our dryer. Seven months before we moved to Germany, we moved to a brand new house at Fort Belvoir. In that new house, there was a four pronged outlet for the dryer. Our dryer had a three pronged cord, so we had to switch it out. In our Georgia house, we're back to needing a three pronged cord. But when Bill went to change out the four pronged cord, he found out the nut that was holding it onto the machine was completely stripped. He tried to remove it for hours, cussing and sweating and even squirting it with WD-40, but the damn thing wasn't budging. And since we couldn't plug in the machine, it was now rendered pretty much useless.
I immediately saw an opportunity to score myself a new dryer when it occurred to me how much a potential repair bill would be. Our old dryer was a cheap model that we bought six years ago. Though Bill didn't really want to spend the money, he finally agreed to let me shop Lowes.com for a new dryer. We needed clean underwear too badly for him to resist.
I found Lowes.com to be very easy to shop, either by room or department. I used the drop down menu to find washers and dryers, then went directly into the dryer section. Once there, I searched through Lowe's extensive selection of models and found one that suited our needs nicely. It was a fairly basic model Whirlpool, a company Bill trusts because he used to work at one of their factories. I added it to my virtual cart, then created an account. I entered our payment information, address, and special instructions for getting to our house. I was glad to find out that I could get next day delivery free. A few hours later, a customer service representative called to give me a two hour window for when the guys would show up with our new dryer.
The very next day, two delivery guys came to our house with our new dryer. They very efficiently removed our old dryer and set up the new one, which came with a free sample of Bounce! fabric softener. They told us to use it for thirty minutes in the dryer before we dried any clothes. Supposedly, the fabric softener helps get rid of that "new dryer" smell, whatever that is. A couple of days later, Lowes.com sent me a coupon for $10 off my next $50 online order as a way of saying thank you. At the rate we're going, I might actually get to use it!
Overall
I am very pleased with my shopping experiences at Lowe's, both in the actual store and online. Our new house in Georgia is located in a rather rural wooded area and, at least until this week, we've only had the use of one rental car. It's very handy to be able to have appliances delivered and it's especially great to have delivery guys who will haul away old appliances. Best of all, it's free-- at least for many of the appliances! The whole experience was much nicer than our original washer/dryer buying experience at AAFES (military discount store). Bill and I ended up having to rent a UHaul to get our machines to our house, then we carried them in ourselves.
I also like Lowe's selection. There were plenty of models available in a wide range of prices, many of which could be delivered free of charge. I appreciated the fact Lowes.com offers a detailed description of each appliance. That makes it very easy to make the right choice. When it's time to buy a new washer, will definitely consider shopping with them first.
