The Bottom Line Inspired by H.L. Mencken
I believe that all dogma whether it is religious, secular, or explicitly atheist is blight on mankind, is responsible for a majority of intolerance in the world, and only open and honest discussion will ever achieve real results. I believe that religion generally encourages ignorance and gives humanity false hope in that which does not exist. I also believe that if God(s) or an afterlife were ever to be discovered, it will by scientists and not theologians. I believe that not a single person worth knowing is a Creationist. I believe that no one has the right to dictate anothers diet, sex life, reading material, or entertainment. Without the most basic right to our own bodies and minds, any concept of rights is preposterous. I believe that society, for the most part, is an ill-defined artificial construct that is often serves as a pretext for paternalism and tyranny. I also believe the idea that you can protect or harm an intangible concept is clearly false. I believe that every single human being is a unique individual and should be treated as such. I also believe that it is being a unique individual that makes life worth living. I believe more large scale evils have been committed with good intentions than outright malice. I believe life is already filled with enough real risks and worrying about statistically unlikely events is an exercise in futility. I believe that one day the hatred of another because of skin colour will be seen as absurd as hatred of another because of eye colour. I believe that all decent people should be embarrassed of their country and despise their government. I believe most politicians, regardless of political ideology, are self-serving and do more harm than good. In the end, I believe that there is still hope for humanity and there always will be. |
