The Bottom Line Enjoy the holidays with classic Disney movies!

I grew up with Disney movies as I'm sure most of you have too. I always found Disney movies to be entertaining whether they were animated or not. Here are a few of the more prominent Disney Christmas movies that I wanted to feature here for the 2006 Holiday season. May you enjoy reading about them and also viewing them! I'm starting with the worst and ending with the best ones (in my opinion!)

10. One Magic Christmas

One Magic Christmas is a 1985 Disney movie that might be a little much for the younger children under age 8 or sensitive children. It contains a few difficult situations with violence and is more depressing in places than uplifting. It is a story of a family that goes through some very tough times with Dad losing his job, leaving the family despondent at Christmas. Ginny (mother) is having a very hard time and finds herself being visited by a Christmas Angel sent by Santa. Will this angel be enough to change Ginny and her feelings? Not for the light-hearted--tissue alert!

9. In Search Of Santa

This is a 2004 animated film released on Video by Disney with some cute animated penguins. It is the story of Princess Crystal who finds a sleigh bell that fell from the sky. She thinks the sleigh bell fell off of one of Santa's reindeer and she sets off with her sister, Princess Lucinda to the North Pole. They run into all kinds of trouble and characters along the way. This is a cute animated film for children that shows how important friends and family are, especially during the holidays! (If you are wondering why this one is so close to the bottom, it has a few places where the animation is not so good but small children will not notice and still like this one.)

8. I'll Be Home For Christmas

I'll Be Home For Christmas stars Jonathan Taylor Thomas as Jake Wilkinson as a hazed college student left in the desert dressed in a Santa suit who is trying to get home in time for Christmas in this 1998 movie. He has to get back to New York by Christmas Eve or else he won't get the vintage Porsche that has been promised by his dad. Along the way he discovers himself and the true meaning of Christmas. Don't let the summary fool you, the acting in this movie is not great and it is Rated PG for rude and crude humor as well as language. I wouldn't recommend this one for small children.

7. Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas

This is a 2004 animated Disney production that is the follow up to Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas. It contains 5 mini stories (14 min. each) with Christmas themes with the whole Disney gang. They include: Christmas:Impossible, Belle's On Ice, Donald's Gift, Mickey's Dog-Gone Christmas and Christmas Maximus. All of the stories have themes which children can relate to and contain a "moral to the story". My personal favorite is Mickey's Dog-Gone Christmas. This is the first production showing all the Disney characters in 3D CGI animation. This is a good film for the entire family but not quite as good as the first one!

6. Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas

Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas features three stories which are each about 23 minutes long and released in 1999. It features heart warming stories titled: "Groundhog Day" featuring our favorite duck nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie; "A Very Goofy Christmas" featuring of course, Goofy; and Micky and Minnie Mouse in "Micky & Minnie's Gift Of The Magi". This one differs from the Micky's Twice Upon A Christmas with longer feature stories that have more depth to them. This is a good one for the entire family.

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a 2003 classic movie written by Tim Burton. It can be classified as a Halloween favorite or Christmas favorite or both! It opens in Halloweentown, with the The Pumpkin King, avoiding his meeting with the Mayor to discuss the coming year's plan. He wanders off into another land...Christmastown, where he is totally fascinated by the holiday spirit, the bright lights and decorations. Jack brings all the news back to Halloween town and plots to take over Christmas and kidnap Santa. Of course, things don't go as planned! Rated PG for some scary sights!

4. The Muppet Christmas Carol

Who doesn't like the Muppets? This is The Muppet's version of the classic Dickens tale of "A Christmas Carol" with Michael Caine portraying Ebenezer Scrooge and doing an excellent job of it! The Muppets try to convince old Scrooge to change his ways...before it is too late. Kermit The Frog plays sympathetic Bob Crachit and Ms. Piggy, Mrs. Crachit. This movie is filled with Muppet humor and song. Don't be surprised if you find yourself humming or singing along! This is an enjoyable movie for adults as well as children of all ages.

3. Ernest Saves Christmas

When Ernest hit the big screen we all laughed so hard we thought we would never get enough of his humor. Ernest Saves Christmas is a 1988 film featuring Jim Varney as Ernest. Ernest is on a mission to help Santa find a successor upon his retirement. Christmas all depends on Ernest! And Ernest is as goofy as ever! This one is full of humor. It is rated PG-13 so you may want to view this one first before letting smaller children watch it.

2. The Santa Clause 2

Tim Allen continues his role as Scott Calvin in The Santa Clause 2 in this 2002 follow up to the original movie. He has been Santa for 8 years now and has settled into the role. All of a sudden the elves find a clause in his contract that states that he must marry to continue his role. Can Scott meet a woman and fall in love in time to marry and continue his role in time to save Christmas? Usually, follow up movies to originals are not quite as good but this one is an exception. Tim Allen brings humor to this movie that rivals the original movie. In fact, I'm really now sure which one should actually be #1.

1. The Santa Clause

The original "The Santa Clause" movie starring Tim Allen is a favorite of young and old alike because everyone can enjoy the humor of this movie. This 1994 classic features Tim Allen as Scott Calvin putting on Santa's suit after he stumbles down the chimney. A magical transformation occurs over the next year and Scott becomes Santa--from the full white beard to the jolly round tummy. As Scott takes on Santa's duties, his son Charlie, thinks this is great but others wonder what is happening to Scott. This is a movie you shouldn't miss! It is a great film for the entire family.

In closing, I would like to note that I haven't seen Santa Clause 3 yet so that is why it is not on the above list. I hope you enjoy the holiday season and have fun with these Classic Disney movies!
