Over the past two months I have been addicted to Ebay. I have run around the house looking for things to sell. It all started with one item that I put on ebay and to my surprise, I got a bid. It was a crystal Mikassa frame. I had received it as a wedding gift five years ago and kept it in the box. I never had a place to put it and decided I would give ebay a shot and sell it.
Even though I work at a print shop with a post office attached, I did not know much about how much things were going to cost to ship. I did put that the buyer would pay for the shipping and handling, but did not put how much until after the auction was over. My buyer did pay for the shipping and handling, but I got some grief over it. I didn't learn how it important it was to put a good shipping and handling price on the auction as it was going, then to do it after, until I had a buyer refuse to pay for the shipping and handling charges. From then on I decided I would round the shipping and handling and put it on while the auction was going. I have had much success doing this.
As I ran out of things to sell on ebay, I discovered that books do really well. I had some older books at home, so I gave them a shot. One of my husband's old role playing books sold for over $41.00. I couldn't believe it. I decided I would look up which books did really well on ebay and hunt for those. I have started going to good will stores, flea markets, yard sales and other bargain places buying books are things that I might sell on ebay.
There is some negativity to ebay. Those who decide not to pay right away, forget to pay and those who decide that they don't want to pay after the auction is over. I hate leaving negative feedback about someone, but if they have not paid me within a month, I have no other choice but to post negative feedback. Fortunately I have only had to post negative feedback twice.
I have yet to receive my first negative feedback, but I fear someday I may just get one, especially with the way the mail has been going. I have had a couple of reports from some of my buyers wondering where there item is even though I have shipped it at least a week from when they are looking for it. I know that bookrate goes a lot slower than first class.
Another negative thing about ebay is that the .30 charge to post or more adds up after awhile. I usually allow for some of my items to cover these expenses because I can reach a bill of at least $40 a month using ebay. (I make much more than that in a month). If you repost an item and it sells the second time around, you will be refunded for your adverting fees for that item.
I have found that my trash is another man's treasure. You would be surprised just what people want and how much they are willing to pay for it. I myself have bought a couple of things from other members of ebay.
