"Houston, We Have a Problem"
by Bryan_Carey | Nov 22 '06
My little baby girl was born in my home, on the bedroom floor. If I can beat odds like this, why can't I win the Powerball?

I missed this story back in 2006. :-) So glad I found it now when I was poking around the writer's corner. What a wonderful story! Your daughter Grace is going to love hearing it (and reading it) some day!

to you and Lisa. Grace is for sure the perfect name.
My brother is a medic here in PA and he probably would be happy to deliver a baby in a bedroom. I know for a fact when he was a new medic, about two minutes out from the hospital, he told the new mommy to please don't deliver this baby in my ambulance.
You two did everything right, but I do know the medics side also. It may seems like it takes forever, but they are getting there as quick as they can.
My brother tells me the best day he ever had, was when he had to shock a man's heart back to life, the man lived, to thank him.

Welcome baby Grace and again congratulations.

I bookmarked this when I first saw it because I didn't have the time to finish reading it. It dawned on me tonight that I had forgot to read the whole thing nevermind stamp my VH on it. I just want to say that I am so very happy for your family and you. Grace is a beautiful name. Your story brought tears to my eyes in a good way and I am glad that everything turned out well. Now I have a different perspective on ambulances as well. Congrats! If you were near, I would send you some good tasty beer/cocktail but I can't so I hope you had a nice one after everything was over.

...and many congratulations on the new addition to your family. Your wife deserves a medal!

My husband and I married late, but we haven't (quite) given up hope.

A baby is such a blessing and I can tell you feel blessed. :)

All best wishes,

Congrats!! I busted out laughing when you described the dress shirt and tie-- just like your Epinions picture, minus the suit. Too funny!

I had my third child at home, but it took 14 hours-- wouldn't have minded the 30 minutes instead! :)

Wow! Now that was a wonderful story! I'm so glad everything came out ok and you have a beautiful and healthy new daughter!

My best friend had her last son delivered by the firemen :) They beat the ambulance and there was no waiting for this little guy.

Congratulations to both you and Lisa! I think you chose a beautiful name for her too :)

I will certainly try my best to keep writing. My output of reviews wasn't affected at all with the first girl last year. But now that there are two little ones, I may have to cut back a few reviews each month.

Yes, I meant to say four, not three. But the oldest one will possibly move out in six or seven years. The others will be with me for a long time.

what an amazing experience, one you will look back on in years to come with so much pride in how you handled everything. And, of course pride in your girls, all 3 of them!

And if anyone will need some Grace it will be the proud papa with all those girls...

One question though. You said I now have a wife and two baby daughters to share my home. Did you not mention a step-daughter earlier in the story? Sounds like you have not 3, but 4 lovely women to share your life. Best of luck to all of you!!

Grace Nicole Carey

YEAH! High five! Go Nicoles of the world! ^_^ She's got my name as a middle name where I have no middle name. Good times for all.

Keep an eye on her - she sounds like she's going to be a headstrong, confident girl.

*cue proud father moment*

Congratulations!!! You had your second girl exactly 11 months and three weeks after we had Aidan :).

I can't believe you all went through all that, just thinking back... I couldn't imagine giving birth on my bedroom floor... thank god it WAS over in 30 minutes.

I'm sure you and your wife have a lot to be thankful for -- congratulations again.

Yes, the bright side is that we will have a story to share for years to come. And the other bright side I forgot to mention in the review is that Lisa was able to avoid having a C- Section! That was one of her greatest fears.
