Fisher Paykel Dish Drawer Nightmare
Written: Nov 04 '09 (Updated Nov 04 '09)
We bought this two drawer unit thinking that this was an inovative idea worth exploring. Unfortunately, it has way too many drawbacks to be worth the expensive price tag. First there is the idea that two drawers will somehow be more efficient. If you are a retired couple with limited dish needs on a daily basis that may be true. If you are a family then you really are running two very small dishwashers all the time rather than one. Be very careful of what dishes you buy and put in these due to the layout. It would be best if you brought a few of your dishes in to the store to see if they even fit. Ours did not and as a result we had to buy new dishes. Also beware of the silverware bucket. It is pure junk and if you try to pick it up by the handle provided it will fall apart. By the way, running a dishwasher with 5 items in it is increadibly wasteful.
Now the next issue at hand is maintanence. It has broken 5 times in 5 years. New motors. New pumps. And now the lower drawer will not drain at all. It makes a horrible grinding noise most of the time and another service call will probably mean that we have spent more on service than the unit cost in the first place.
