Many thanks to Hawklady99 for this very detailed review. It has been most helpful in comparing models of Epson inkjet printers, and has enabled me make a choice quickly. Thanks, too, for the link to a good paper supplier.

I ordered the printer today from redriver -- it was a good deal, as they accept returns without restocking fees. It is being shipped today.

I found that buy.com was cheaper for ink cartridges than the site you recommended.

As for paper, I am getting Red River's sample kit. I notice that the Epson paper is thicker (10.4m) that the red river paper (10 m)

Any comments?

Also, I notice that RR has panoramic size sheets, which might be a nice alternative to the roll. What do you think?

By the way, feel free to email me directly at alalub@e-broadbandnews.com

Again, your review was extremely helpful to me, as were the answers to your questions.

Your color cartridge should have 5 tanks on it. The six colors are called CcMmY & K. In the color cartridge the colors are as follows: C=dark cyan, c=light cyan, M=dark magenta, m= light magenta, Y=yellow, and B is black in the separate cartridge.

So you should see 5 separate small tanks on your color cartridge.

If you have any questions let me know. My email is wpencile@rochester.rr.com

Hi Alan,

The roll paper works pretty easily. you just switch paper guides and add your roll paper. It takes about 2 minutes. I have tried their matte finish paper but I'm not crazy about the appearance of the photos on the Matte paper. I bought the Red River roll paper. I should have purchased their gloss or satin roll.

One thing I missed when using their paper, in the Epson printer interface it asks you to pick out the paper size. I actually measured the RR paper and it's not quite the width mentioned for Epson paper so i customized it. Big Mistake. Epson's roll paper is the size as the RR, but they call it 4" roll. I should have just chosen the roll paper setting. The printer prints edge to edge on the roll setting.

The printer does not cut the paper. you have to do it manually. I have a Fiskars rotary cutter for all of my photos so I use this.

Glad I could be of some help. I've spent so much on printers I wanted to share my mistakes as well as my success.

...you mentioned that the printer takes six colors...when I opened it up in the store, it looked like only three colors in the color ink cartridge...am i missing something?

What a wonderfully detailed review. The links to the web sites were especially helpful, as were the printing tips.

Tell me, though: have you used this printer with roll paper? I want to print panoramic pictures and wonder how it works and what roll paper you would recommend. Also, how do you cut the roll paper after the print is printed? Does the printer cut it, or do you have to do it by hand?

Thanks
