The Bottom Line Twas the Night Before Christmas Eve.

Twas the night before Christmas Eve
And I sit in my chair,
Reading folk’s great reviews,
Written with such flair.

Upstairs in my room
Is a pile of presents to wrap
But instead I will write.
Oh, what a mishap.

I just couldn’t take it,
The mess and the strain.
It turned into chaos.
Allow me to explain:

I sat on the floor,
Wrapping paper at hand.
A quick festive packaging
Is what I had planned.

As I sorted though gifts
For nephews, nieces, and more.
Then the task at hand,
I began to implore.

I had rolled out the paper,
And tossed about bows.
Wrote out the labels,
To whom each gift goes.

From the top of the pile
There arose such a clatter,
Barbies and Hotwheels
Began to tumble and scatter.

I leaped from my spot
Gathering toys all askew,
And was accosted by a blanket
Imprinted with Pikachue.

As I emerged from the pile
Using all of my might.
I saw in front of me
A pitiful sight.

My beautiful paper,
Crumpled, torn and uncut.
Tape stuck in my hair
And bows stuck to my butt.

Then to my wondering
Eyes should appear,
But a curious child
Sneaking close near.

Up the stairs and across
The hall he did sneak
He thought just maybe
He could get in a peek.

At that point
My temper did boil.
This Christmas he
Was not going to spoil.

“On child, go running”
I shouted “Right Now!”
“Before you see
Your mom have a cow!”

To the bottom of the stairs
He dashed with such fear.
He knew a good yelling
Was mighty close near.

I chased him away
And down the stairs.
All of the while
Getting such glares.

And now he is pouting
And watching T.V.
Sitting and wondering.
What has gotten into me.

So, here I now sit,
Still lots to prepare.
But, frankly I don’t really,
Give much a care.

Ok… I do.
You are right.
After all, Christmas Eve.
Is tomorrow night.

So, as my husband
Tucks my son into bed.
Visions of Legos
Will dance in his head.

I will resume wrapping
His fantasy treasures,
Because his Christmas morning elation
Will give me such pleasure.

As I head for this big task
I wish to all on this site:
“Merry Christmas to all,
And to all a good night!”
