Shopgirl seems to be a Hit or Miss movie- I loved it, but there seem to be a lot of people who just don't feel the same way I do- in any case, glad to see you added it to the list!

Like Stephen, I agree-- no need to explain absence of King Kong. I certainly agree with your guest reviewer for Squid and the Whale: I'm sold. (Thanks for the shout-out).
I'm not exactly 'feeling it' for the 2006 crop of films, with none standing out tremendously from the pack...
Of those films not mentioned in your piece, I also enjoyed My Summer of Love and Nobody Knows, and agree again with Stephen, A History of Violence is a must. Among documentaries, of which there were many excellent ones in 2005, Enron and Grizzly Man stood out.
Cheers,
John

V for Vendetta was officially released in 2006 worldwide. Not 2005 though it was supposed to be released that year.

I'm glad you're enjoying "Broken Flowers" as much as I have. Thanks for sharing.

for the absence of "King Kong," but I'm curious at the absence of "History of Violence" and "Paradise Now" even from the discussion of also-rans is surprising (as is the inclusion of "The Libertine").
