I had Madden 1997. That game was great. Don't know if I remember the basketball games however....other than NBA JAM. That game was too fun.

Funny, I just bought a Genesis this week. Old one failed. Need it for the sports games I have and still play:
Madden '98
NBA Live '98
PGA '96
NBA Action
several others!
