I have been a Magic Cabin customer for about five years, and I have mixed feelings. Yes, this company carries some nice products. Not only do they stay true to their mission-- carrying only toys powered by the imagination-- their catalog design is sweet and beautiful. I don't mind leaving this one on the coffee table. There's no chance my sons will envy some blinking, beeping plastic junk-- you just don't see that in Magic Cabin. On the other hand, this catalog will never tell you the brand name of most of the products it carries. A few are listed, but they are only the fancy ones-- Steiff, Kathe Kruse. The others are carefully omitted. This is because Magic Cabin does not want you to do any comparison shopping. And their prices ARE sometimes higher than competitors (but sometimes not). So in order to read any product reviews, you have to somehow uncover the brand name, scope it out someplace else, and then return to M.C. for a purchase. But as a customer, I WANT that information. Their brands vary widely-- from fancy to Melissa and Doug. Now, we have plenty of Melissa and Doug at our house, but the quality is not that high. I'd just like to know what I'm buying before I buy it. The other thing to watch out for here is that they are the same company as HearthSong and Plow & Hearth. And some of the products overlap... at different prices! For example, there's a toy called the Sit On Pinto horse. It sells for different prices at the three stores-- at three different prices, actually. What's up with that?
