i'd have to agree a bit with le_thien, T.I. gets no love 'round here it seems. King's a very good album, even though i'm not so sure how it stacks up 'gainst some of these.
i'm wary 'bout checking the Clipse out though. not just cuz of the subject matter, Pharrell's beats there seem like an "acquired taste" so to speak, given some of the stuff i've read. i like flashier Neptunes ish anyway.
Idlewild to me is like the negative flip of Stankonia -- they're both all over the place but it doesn't hold together well like that album.
anyway, i'll shaddap, but nice list, though i'm unfamiliar with a handful of guys here. might have to pick up 'Fest's album though. that "Brand New" track with Kanye was some goofy sh*t

snik1 - It took me a while to actually listen to all of Kenn Starr's album, but I eventually got to it and enjoyed what I heard. And yes, the eMC album is going to own all this year. My prediction is "The Show" and Rakim's "Seventh Seal" will be the best albums of the year. And I plan on reviewing the Roots album soon, as I will Nas' and Cunninlynguists' albums. Thanks for the comment!
chaostamer - To me, "Street's Disciple" WAS a disappoinment. Check my review to see what I'm talkin' bout. And Cube's album was okay, but definitely not enough to be included. Thanks for the comment!
Speeddemon531 - I promise I'll be on time next year! Thanks for the comment!
le_thien - T.I., Subtle, and Clipse? I ain't really enjoy any of them records, though T.I.'s was okay. Thanks for the comment!
pdtfromphxaz - That just shows what great taste you have in Hip-Hop. Thanks for the comment!
balogun - I knew you were anticipating this too Dayo, but the reason I singled Kyle out in paticular is he kept e-mailing me about it, asking when it was done and when I would have it up. I appreciate the compliments man, I'm flattered to known that my writing inspires you. The feeling is definitley mutual. Thanks for the comment!
Peace

...you prove to me why you're one of my favorite writers on this site. I might have not shown it like Kyle, but I was really looking forward to this list, having heard of the legendary "30 album" list from last year's D&D W/O lol
A few of the albums listed here might have escaped my radar. But best believe I will check them out, as well as have a much better eye for quality hip-hop material this year to improve on my next D&D W/O. Once again, Nick, you inspire me to step my game up.
Thanks!

Fluid Write-Up (Reply to this comment)
by le_thien
It's nice to know there's a firm coagulation of hip-hop fans around here who still invest faith in mainstream hip-hop. It's been a begrudging year for hip-hop and me, and I unfortunately do disagree with a few of your selections, since the only hip-hop records I think were even remotely worth talking about were turned in by Clipse, Subtle and T.I. Of course, these divergences are moot at best and your reasons backing up your choices are more than valid. 'Preciate the read.
Pee Es: How in blazes did you swear in your write-up? =)

Now be on time next year! :-)
Nah, seriously...very well put together list. You obviously sat and thought this one out. And I agree with you on most of your choices-at least on the ones I've actually heard.
Good stuff--

You got it done! Yay! :)
I mostly agree with everything here (although there were a few albums, like Vakill's, I've wanted to check out in '06 but didn't), especially on Kenn Starr's album - "Carry On" has been in rotation constantly lately, and I love "Middle Fingaz" too. As for Ghostface, "More Fish" is dope - it would have probably made #12 on my list if I had updated it and there are some undoubtedly GREAT tracks there. I do disagree with the placement of OutKast, but "Idlewild" isn't horrible - just incohesive, as you said.
Me and you seem to be anticipating some similar albums from '07 (which is without a doubt gonna be an awesome year for hip-hop), especially eMC (which is scheduled for next month!) Thanks for the shout and excellent list man - but if you would have done 15 or 20, I'm curious - what other albums would have landed in the list?
PS - review the Roots' one.
Peace
