My Umoja (Reply to this comment)
by agile
I have seen the DVD and also watched it on the Africa Channel from time to time and I have a few copies of the CD which I like to play as well.
Last week I was on a holiday in South Africa and on my last day discovered that Umoja was being performed at the Victory Theatre not far from where I was staying.
I bought a ticket for my favourite seat, right at the front in the middle! Its a good spot to enjoy this show from and even better because one of the girls from the cast, on her day off, came to sit next to me.
This production was better than on the DVD because the band was behind a thin white screen and became visible whenever they were lit up.
The show was fantastic but everyone else has said that before. The lighting was spot on but my only criticsm was the reinforced sound quality was not as good as it could have been. Luckily being at the front I mostly did not need it as I could hear the sounds directly from the artists.
I worked as an engineer for the BBC for a long while and could have greatly improved the sound quality and the girl beside me wanted me to stay and sort it out for them. Unfortunately my plane flight back to London was leaving later that evening so regretably I was unable to offer to help.
If its still on when I return towards the end of the year I will enjoy seeing it again! What better compliment can I give them?

Hi Tony!
Thanks for relating your experience, it would be amazing to see this show in South Africa itself but, despite my South African wife (and in-laws... :-O) I've never been there. Don't forget you could watch it in the UK too!!
