You're welcome, Capt! Thanks again for the write-off. :o)

And a great list you have, too! I hadn't heard Mendelssohn's Hebrides before. Must check it out. I love Prokofiev's Romeo et Juliet ballet, too. Didn't know about it until I saw a clip of the Arrival of the Guest to the Ball from a performance in Venice on CAS last year. Some cool echoes of Peter and the Wolf there.

Haendel, I'm still getting used to him. He wrote such gorgeous songs for his opera... but there are so many of them per show that I tend to start snoring by the 2nd act. You'll probably like Beethoven's 7th symphony, though (the allegretto from that piece appears in the film Mr Holland's Opus when Mr Holland tells his class of Beethoven's deafness after finding out that his son was born deaf). :o)

Thanks again! And hope your weekend is rolling along well!

Hey John!

After reading that I appreciate how much wider your knowledge of classical music is... sure you couldn't squeeze out some more? :-D It's really more about the individual compositions than the composers. OR could be, depends how people write it!

Anyway, if you enter it'd be great, but if not I understand. I only mentioned a few classical composers in JaguarDog's A-Z write off.

Dave, wow. You've listened to much more classical music than I have! I'll have to think about joining this, okay? It's inspiring me to listen to more.

Howdy-

I would have joined, had I not already written at length on just the subject:

But kudos for spreading the love to classical field-

Now I wasn't quite that bad... I had it memorised, but I never hand copied it!! :-D

I was kind of disappointed that they didn't have the full orchestral version of the Water Music, though I worked out that one of the pieces for the dancing subgame was by Bach.

I feel the same way about the Pirates (though for Amiga 500). I know every island in that region of the world ever since having hand-copied out the map on triple the originally supplied map's size... :)

I'm not managing though am I?!?!? Pesky real life getting in the way again. Too exhausted even to log on yesterday!!

I thought classical music seemed rather underrepresented on Eps, so a write off seemed a logical idea to strat redressing the balance.

Oops... I know this will sound stupid, but I was getting him confused with Josef Strauss!! Thanks for the correction. Will have to get hold of Don Quitoxe.

I hope you do enter... and in my book at least yes, Gerswhin is a classical composer (Rhapsody in Blue, right? Actually that shoudl probably have been on my list!!)

I might do another WO aout movie composers, who IMHO tend to be the best modern classical composers. I'll see how this one goes first.

Hehe... you obviously never saw my mention of him as a composer I liked nor my film review of "Mahler" by tKen Russell...

I really like the Titan symphony, I've got to admit I dont know an awful lot of his work.

I may have to try this...if I come up with a list, I'll let you know!

I enjoyed reading about the pieces and composers you especially enjoy.

Does Gershwin count as classical? I know he's a Yank, but... :-)

Richard and Johann were NOT brothers (by blood or by spirit). And while on Richard, my favorite orchestral music of his is Don Quixote, but "The Four Last Songs" eclipse everything that went before them IMO.

Have you tried Mahler? I've only begun to explore his works, and have been taken of late with his Resurrection Symphony.

Great list!
