I set up my first ever webpage on lycos/tripod yesterday (http://makemoneyonline87.tripod.com/howtomakemoneyonline/) and I kind of have mixed feelings about this homepage host. Let me explain.
I am completely new to webpage design, I've had no experience with HTML before, and despite this, I found Tripod very easy to use to create a site. I used their page creator (I forget what it's called) and it took a few minutes, but after I got used to it, it was a breeze to use. You can choose a predesigned layout and add your own pictures, text, links, guestbooks, etc to it. Adding links, "webgems", pages, and so on is as easy as a few clicks. Though my website is small now, I plan to use these features including more HTML stuff to add more to it soon.
Unfortunately, I can't because the server is down right now. I've hardly been using tripod for 24 hours and it's already screwing up?! This makes me wonder how reliable this site will be in the future. Strangely, I can connect to my webpage, but not the tripod homepage. I do, however, like the overall design of Tripod a lot.
There are many features I haven't taken advantage of yet. There seems to be a lot you can do with animation and HTML. While Tripod looks good for beginners like me, I think experts would be better off with software like FrontPage, Dreamweaver, etc.
Summing things up, Tripod is very well designed, easy to use, and fun, but what good is all that if it's not reliable? I guess I'll find out.
