Pros: Low rates, location, best part of beach, fitness centre

The Bottom Line: Good option if you are on a budget and all you care about is the beach. Everything else stinks..for real.

| alek_toronto's Full Review: Radisson Cable Beach Casino and Golf Resort |
I have never, ever been fond of the Radisson Hotel Chain. They are somewhere on the totem pole around the Holiday Inn and Howard Johnsons. Having to go to Nassau to do some last minute banking mandated me to book the Radisson Cable Beach. I usually stay at the Compass Point, but sadly it was sold out. Luckily I got a super saver deal at the Radisson at $75 USD so I guess I cannot complain too much. For one thing the price is very good..but people need to remember one thing on the Bahamas and that is all the extra charges..there is a bellman charge, a housekeeping charge, a service charge, a tipping charge, an electricity charge, etc...it gets out of hand real easy..my 2 nights at $75 a night turned into almost $300 and that didn't include meals..
Now that is more an issue with the government of the Bahamas than the hotel but I don't understand why don't they just hide the charge and quote a flat fee - all included - it sure would alleviate the sticker shock..
Anyways my review:
Location:
Cable Beach, pretty good. The hotel is on a cleaner (albeit more crowded) part of the beach. Very good for those sun hogs. It is right next to the Marriott and the tired looking casino there. Not much else in the area unless you walk down the road. A few restaurants and shops..Remember that the Bahamas is expensive, but cheaper to eat out than in the hotel. Central Nassau is about 15 mins by taxi.
Room:
My room was pretty stale from the get go. Stale smelling carpet and bed sheets..I think they have not done any replacement of either to this point.Beds are soft and mushy. The usual TV and radio. Closet with a safe deposit box, which you have to pay to use, btw...All that I could live with..however the clincher was the bathroom..Is scuzzy a word?? It sure described it to a T. Everytime the toilet was flushed sewage came up and the resulting smell stank up the rest of the room. I learned quickly to close the door. I later learned form other guests that I was not priviledged to have this, but it was a feature available in every room. One lady cut short her stay due to this. Consider yourselves warned. I guess one is not in Nassau to stay in the room anyways....
Service:
Well typical Bahamian, abrupt, snappy and curt. There are a few older ladies that can take a joke or two, but most just don't regard guests as human beings..Any request took long to fulfill and check in took over 30 mins..How hard can it be?? The service staff will routinely ignore you, get used to it.
Facilities:
This hotel is popular with families due to all the distractions for kids..Lots of pools as well as the beach. Of course for sporty adults there is a pretty good fitness centre across the road from the hotel that offers a fitness room as well as squash and tennis courts..
Overall:
I would only recommend this hotel to non demanding people who only want to save a few bucks as the other options on the island are generally much more expensive. Beach and Pools are the highlights here.
