Novasure 2.5 years later (Reply to this comment)
by anitad1223
Although I don't regret my decision to have the procedure done 2 1/2 years ago, I am a little dissappointed to see that my periods are starting to come back little by little. Not much, just a tinge on day one. Just enough to need a panty liner. What is more dismaying is that up until now, I had no indication that I was experiencing my period--no mood swings, no cramps, etc. Now it is all starting to come back little by little. I don't know if this happens with everyone, but if you are thinking of having this done, you should have all the information!
I am almost 42 years old, so I am hoping that if it does continue to increasingly come back, menopause will take over at some point--hopefully sooner rather than later! Good luck!

Great Novasure Experience!!! (Reply to this comment)
by mich64guar
Boy, I really have to give you girls who had it done in the office credit. I think you are braver than me. I had mine done in the hospital as an outpatient in April of this year. I think I was at the hospital a total of 4 hours. Went to sleep, woke up, had some cramping and the recovery room nurse immediately gave me something for the pain. I didn't even have to ask, she saw me squirming and making faces, LOL. Minimal bleeding afterward, mostly a pinkish discharge for a couple of days and then gone. It's been wonderful not having a period!!! I'm hoping it lasts a while.

Re: My decision (Reply to this comment)

I have to wonder if the negative comments are from a vocal minority. I have discussed this with several friends over the past two years and the three women I personally know have all been pleased. Their only regret was that they didn't have it done sooner. I myself had it done june 3rd with the hysteroscope and Dand C. My doctor is well trusted with a high success rate and is very thorough. I have no complaints as of yet and my period was scheduled to come yesterday and to my great relief it has not come. I am feeling great and and am very optimistic all will be well.

My decision (Reply to this comment)
by dkitty
After a long time considering my own options, I am declining having the Novasure done. I am almost 40, my cycles are pretty much on time and last 5 days, but they first 3 days are horrid clots and cramps.I will go ahead and have the Hysterscope and a D and C still. I weighed the pros and cons and the cons were alot more then the pros.It is done in the hospital which is next door from the Drs office. They use a "twilight" for sedation. The cons I have read about and this isn't just from one person, but by several was that sex can be painful for months afterwards, people actually saw "chunks" of their uterus come out!! The bleeding can last several weeks.Since mine is pretty much on time every month, I do not feel that I need this procedure. I have no idea if I have fibroids or not, I go back to my Dr this week and hopefully, have a ultrasound...I have also read if you do have fibroids, this procedure is unsucessful...
Much luck to all who are making their decision and congrats on the ones this actually works for...

Glad I Did Had It Done! (Reply to this comment)
by jon6pat
I was suffering from extremely heavy periods for about a year. I had to wear a diaper with 3 pads to avoid messing up my clothes! It was so frustrating and painful! When my white blood cells began to drop, that's when the doctor said I had to either have a hysterectomy or the Novasure procedure done.
I chose the Novasure procedure because I checked out the website and read up on it & thought it was better to do that and keep all my "parts" than to have a hysterectomy and have to be on hormone pills the rest of my life.
The procedure was quick, painless. I did have to take medicine for the extreme cramps I was having right after the procedure but I only had to take the pills once.
I did have light periods off and on the first 6 months, but nothing compared to my heavy periods. It would only last a day or 2 & that was fine.
It's been years since I had it done and now I'm starting to have periods again, about every other week I'm having periods, mostly light ones that last from 2-3 days, then stop. Every once in a while I have a heavy one for about 2 days, then it stops. In fact, I'm having a heavy one right now!
This procedure, from what I understand is supposed to last about 2 years on average so it's not a permanent solution. Some lasts longer, some not. I think the procedure is supposed to "tie you over" between the heavy period and making it thru menopause. The doctors hope that after the 2 years, your body will go thru that bad phase and get to the point of no periods or lighter periods on its own without having to have a hysterectomy.
I'd definitely do this over cause I'd rather keep my parts to avoid hormones at any cost!

It's been over 2 years... (Reply to this comment)
by samwise514
I highly recommend novasure, I had it done over 2 years ago, and long term, the results have been outstanding! I have two days of light spotting (not even heavy enough to need a panty liner)! I was hoping for any improvement after having heavy periods, and it's been great! The procedure was a breeze, a litte sore afterward, just needed tylenol...a friend recently had ablation done with the freezing balloon method, and she is having alot of drainage issues after over 2 weeks...Novasure gave me minimal drainage afterward, I just smelled a little "toasty" for a few weeks, but rewards have been outstanding! I'm sure everyone will have a different experience, but mine was great! Taking the chance for a nicer, cleaner life was definitely worth it!

It has been over 3 years now and I still have had no period....last year I did have some health issues that came up which I think is why I've started spotting again...but the spotting only occurs every 2 months or so and lasts only a few hours. I was diagnosed with pre cancerous cervical cancer and had to have a LEEP procedure done which I think has caused the spotting but I'm NOT a dr so I wouldn't take my word on that...just my opinion. I'm still very pleased with the NOVASURE procedure....

I believe the results are supposed to be permanent. It seems like there are more people who blog when things go wrong than when things go right. My sister knows 3 women who had great results. I'll keep you posted.

Just had Novasure procedure (Reply to this comment)
by anitad1223
I just had it done 2 1/2 days ago. My dr. really dotted the i's and crossed t's w/ ultrasounds, and tests to make sure there were no fibroids, etc. I had the procedure done in office. I took ibuprofen, vicadin and pills to help dilate my cervix before the appt. I was given a shot for pain, pill for nausea, and novacain on my cervix for numbing. The dr. had to dilate my cervix manually because it was not open enough. YEOUCH! it killed, and was made worse by my tipped uterus. I could feel quite a lot of pain during the procedure, but it was quick and bearable. When I got home after the procedure, the shot meds wore off. The pain felt like back labor contractions (without a break in between!) for hours! I was counting down the hours between vicadin pills! I have to say, though that the next day, all I took was ibuprofen, and today nothing at all. Very little bleeding and no discharge. I really hope it works. I just wanted to give info to others in case you are trying to decide whether to have full anesthesia at the hospital or as I had it done at the dr. office. Good luck!

How Long Does The NovaSure Effect Last??? (Reply to this comment)
by faith1amw
From what I have read this is a quick alternative procedure to avoid getting a Hysterectomy. Several people have good comments that the procedure was effective in reducing their bleeding but I have not found anything that says this procedure last more than a year. Is it worth the pain and discomfort of the procedure to only prolong the inevitable (Hysterectomy)?

Just had it done (Reply to this comment)
by bluebeth
I had NovaSure done on Tuesday and it is now Saturday. I had it done more for the irregularity of my cycles (21-45 days), but also because they were getting very heavy. I had tried hormones (birth control pills, etc) but none of those worked. (icky part coming) I'm having some clear/yellow discharge right now, but nothing bad. Some bleeding on Tuesday right after the procedure, but I was also finishing up my period. At this point I'd recommend this procedure to anyone thinking about ablation. Hopefully my thoughts won't change over the next couple months.

Just did it. (Reply to this comment)
by specialsauce07
I just had it done yesterday. I'm back at work today. I feel great, very mild cramping and discharge. My procedure was scheduled at 11:30 in the Dr.'s office and I was on my way home at 12:30. I was groggy and took one pain pill at home. I slept until 7 and woke up feeling great.
I'll try to update how I feel in a month or so. The doctor did mention that I had a large uterus, but the US tech and Dr. said I had no fibroids, cysts, or polyps. Ovaries looked good. The large uterus is from 5 kids (3 of them really big)
so I hope I don't end up with some of the problems that were mentioned here.

It is now 4 1/2 weeks since and I am still having light bleeding. My doctor said give it another 2 weeks. I also have been wearing just panty liners but it is still frustrating! I was having my period the week I had this done so it has been about 5 weeks. I hope it stops soon. Good luck to you!

over 3 weeks since novasure (Reply to this comment)
by joyontz
I had the novasure procedure done on May 4 in my gynocologist office. Everything went great. Went to my daughter's softball game that night and worked the next morning. (I'm a hairdresser.) I had no cramping, pain or anything. My only concern is I am still having light bleeding. It has been 25 days. It is very frustrated. I expected only 2 weeks. I started with a yellowish dishcharge for about a week or so and the tissue and bleeding have been ever since. Am I overreacting?
