Shadows Fall - "Redemption" (New album Single)

The Bottom Line I definitely recommend purchasing this song. The guys are back and their breakthrough to a mainstream label hasn't changed them a bit.

Shadows Fall, one of the biggest metal acts of the new millennium comes roaring back in 2007 with the release of a new album in April titled Threads of Life. The band hits mainstream with their new major record label Atlantic Records and it couldn’t come at a better time. Their last 2 records broke through to mainstream charts with The War Within topping at the number 2 on the Billboard independent charts and number 20 on the Top 200. 2 of their singles also made it on to those charts. Their success was surprising making them the only band to sell over 100,000 copies of an album on their previous California based label, Century Media. Their new album is slated for an April 3rd release.
Shadows Fall release their first single from their new album a month in anticipation. The single is titled Redemption and is a strong opening for the album and a strong first single. As front man Brian Fair had stated, the song is truly the culmination of the Shadows Fall sound. The single begins very much like past Shadows Fall material with an intense but fairly simple opening riff. The verse has a loose feel, almost funky in a sense. The song is one of Shadows Fall’s most lyrically strong to date. “All the world will hear you. Our voices can’t be bound.”. That melodic chorus resonates just as good if not better than a lot of the material contained in their 2nd major album, The Art of Balance. The actual overall guitar work is just as good as ever. The intensity and speed are far but lost with these guys. The drum work is somewhat tame at least in comparison with some of the ridiculously fast tracks heard on The War Within. The song eventually leads to one of their patented shredding sections. Calling it a solo section almost seems sacrilegious with the shredding these guys do.
Overall, the song is great. Everything that could possibly have attracted someone to Shadows Fall in the past is well represented in this single including the speed, sheer intensity and power, Brian’s screams and melodic voicing, the soloing, everything remains in tact. If this single is any indication of what we will get on April 3rd, then it will become very apparent that Shadows Fall have obtained and surpassed the musicianship that was heard on The Art of Balance
