JAGUARDOG’S 2nd ever Hosted Write-Off of “My Top-50 Favorite Novelty Songs of All-Time”
Mar 07 '07 (Updated Apr 12 '07)
The Bottom Line Please feel free to join this write-off but if Novelty songs are not your cup of tea that’s okay as well.
Well old Friends and New I am back to offer you-all a brand new write-off to please join in when you find the time to compile your list. This is a follow-up to my 1st ever write-off posting I made on 5 June 2005 titled: "JAGUARDOG's 1st ever Hosted Write-Off of My Favorite Musical Artists of All-Time A to Z". First let me apologize to everyone because I had originally planned to make a Musical Write-Off an Annual thing but the one for 2006 never got off the ground for many various reasons. The biggest of them was that I was in and out of the Hospital several different times. I had Major Surgery last year and also was in a Nursing/Re-Hab Center for a while. With the Hospital Stays, many Doctor appointments, Re-Hab and a lot of pain and terrible discomfort some days it was too hard to concentrate on anything for too long of a time. Anyway the last few months have been a lot better, only a little pain, very few appointments and a couple of small follow-up in-patient procedures. Anyway enough about what I have been up to or not up to, let's get on with the good stuff now.
This Write-Off is OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS of the site regardless if you were officially invited or not.
This write-off has basically the same rules as my first one in that there are no rules per say. My write-off is quite simple with a few suggested guidelines. I would like you to please make a list of your 50 favorite crazy/silly "Novelty" songs of all-time and the artist that recorded it if you can remember? Now for some of the suggested guidelines. Since some of you probably won't be able to come up with as many as 50 crazy/silly songs make a list as long as you can, 40, 30 etc. If you can come up with more than 50 then that's cool as well and by all means add in some extras if you feel the need to? There is no time-limit to post your entry by so you can post it tomorrow, next week, next month, next year when ever you feel like you have the time by all means please take your time. My last/1st write-off that I mentioned earlier received another entry this year (2 years later) thanks to my new Friend and Member Mike who goes by "henry_thoreau". So please do not feel rushed and anyone and everyone is cordially invited to please participate in some way even if we do not know each other please feel free to jump in with both feet.
Once again please remember there are NO RULES to this write-off so you can have a short list of crazy/silly songs or a you can have a long list, the 50 I previously mentioned is only a suggested guideline. The list you compile does not have to be in any order at all. Please feel free to constantly update your posting to add in ones you think of the next day, the next month or the next year. I'm sure I missed some genres but the sky's the limit so go crazy and use a lot of them. You may not recognize a lot of songs or artists or both on my list below but thats okay. Most if not all of my songs are considered Oldies but Goodies and in some cases we call the Oldie Moldies which is basically very old and way past there prime. Some of you are way to young to remember some of these but thats not a problem either. Heres a hint that may help you with your list a little bit. If you can only remember a few but want to have a bigger list then read other postings in the write-off first and maybe their lists of songs will jog your memory. JAGUARDOG'S FINAL THOUGHTS
Those crazy/silly Novelty songs sometimes can bring back some great memories of yesteryear as I hope one of more did for you. In my list above I only listed my favorite by that artist and any others I like by them I placed in the Honorable Mention section. I did this so I could have a variety or artists and not have more than one song by anyone on the regular list. I also intentionally left off a few artists from my Top 50 5 on purpose such as "Alan Sherman", "Bill Cosby", "Cheech & Chong","Cledus T. Judd", "Frank Zappa", "Homer & Jethro", "The Mothers of Invention", "Phil Harris", "Spike Jones", "Stan Freberg", and "Weird Al Yankovich" just to name a few. I hope some if not most of you enjoyed this look backwards in time in Music History to do a little reminiscing?
I hope to get back to a semi-regular posting basics here at Epinions and try to at least post a minimum of once a month if everything goes according to plan? As always I wish to graciously thank everyone who dropped by to read and rate this piece and if you get a chance please also drop me a comment if you feel so inclined?
UPDATE: 9 MARCH 2007
I have an idea I would like to run up the flag pole to see if I can get any takers? Thanks to a recent comment from "Jordan" I come up with an alternate way to join in the fun without having to write/post a complete write-off entry. If you would like you can leave me a quick comment with the name of your favorite "Novelty" song from my list and if possible 1 "Novelty" song not on my list if you can think of one? Like I was reminded of Dead Skunk (In The Middle of The Road and the artist himself "Loudon Wainwright III" that I had totally forgot about. This song would definitely be on my list and in my top 20 at least.
NOTE:
New Update as of 6AM 031507
I added in a new #1 as I forgot totally about "The Unicorn" song, how absentminded of me? Good thing St. Patrick's Day is very near, because that's what made me remember it.
Thanks a million Pat for being the first to join in. You may be the only one that takes me up on this write-off?
