Pros:Built-in amp churns out lots of power. Plays CD-R's without a hiccup. Great tuner.
Cons:Numerous features take sometime to get used to.
The Bottom Line: The Alpine name and reputation is impeccable. If you want style, features and power, look no further. It was a little bit more money, it was well worth it.
I replaced a Kenwood 8017 CD-R/MP3 player with the Alpine 7873. While it doesn't play MP3's, it more than makes up for that with incredible on-board power, uncluttered display and a great tuner. The difference between the Alpine and Kenwood became apparent the moment I installed and powered-up the unit. The Alpine pumps out tons of bass, whereas the Kenwood didn't. In fact, the Kenwood lacked bass even when the bass settings were cranked-up to the maximum setting.
This deck is incredible. It's powerful, it's basic functions are easy to learn, and the swing-face mechanism is perfect for my car (my car radio mounting is low on the dash).
I was considering a Sony CDX-M620, but, everyone I asked recommended the Alpine over the Sony, hands-down. After spending a day with this radio, I am glad I chose it. For the money, you can't go wrong.
