Tire Rack - Good Selection and prices but check shipping costs

I have four vehicles all of which get driven SEVERAL miles yearly plus various trailers so I usually end up buying at least one set of tires a year. I live in a rural area so the local stores have a limited selection and their prices leave a lot to be desired. Because of this I usually end up purchasing my tires online. When purchasing tires online I have found that Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct are the two top sites for car and truck tires. Comparing the two Tire Rack usually has lower prices (sometimes significantly lower depending on the tire) however the consumer has to compare the total price with shipping to get the full picture.
A recent example was when I was purchasing tires for a 1999 Ford F250. I had narrowed my choice to two tires that I knew from experience would work well on this truck, Yokohama Geolander AT/S and BF Goodrich T/A-KO. Comparing the prices on Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct showed that Tire Rack was cheaper by approximately $8 per tire for the BFG's and more than $20 per tire on the Yokohama's but the approximately $100 shipping costs from Tire Rack (Discount Tire Direct has free shipping) made the true cost higher. The last set of tires I bought before these were Goodyears for a Toyota Camry and in that case the difference in price was substantial enough that Tire Rack was cheaper even with the shipping added. Definitely check around and remember to add the shipping costs before making your purchase, with money as tight as it is these days every penny counts!
As for shipping and service I have nothing but good things to say about Tire Rack. Shipping has always been very quick and I have never had a problem with their service. Their selection is usually larger than Discount Tire Direct as well so if you are looking for a less common size or a particular tire, Tire Rack will probably have it even when others do not.
