ROFL!
Good thing, eh?
Well, I've got the shifter pulled, working on getting the bolts off the drive shaft. Need to rent an impact wrench and air compressor.
So that's my update. You can breathe now.

Hi slow!
How's it going?
Yeah, fluid checking is absolutely important. Including in your vehicles. ;-)
Hard lesson learned.
Take care,

...you have now officially scared the crap out of me. I will run home and check my fluid levels at the absolute earliest convenience.
And I'll check the fluid levels in my vehicles, too.
Nice job-- this was really important reading, and done in a fun way!

... the number hasn't changed. It's been way too long, my friend. I'd like to know how you're doing. Sounds like pretty well. Good for you!

Hey Michael!
It's probably that the neighbor's husband keeps wandering around outside in all that lingerie.
Scares off all the deer. ;-)
Now THAT ticks me off.

Thanks!
Mostly I think I have a good amount of trusters simply because I've been here forever. Well, close to forever anyhow. ;-)

Hi!
There's just something about a five speed. Love it.
Problem is, I was checking all my other levels myself, so the shop never came near my truck.
That won't happen again.

Hi Michael!
Yeah. I'm getting older too. But I'm also a cheapskate. Kills me to pay labor when I can get the parts cheap and do it myself.
Although I have NO intentions of trying to replace the transmission myself. My Hanes manual isn't that good. So okay, it probably is, *I'm* just not that good. ;-)
Good to hear from you Michael.

Cicada??
Sheesh. No need to be insulting. ;-P
I know. Should've checked for myself. Painful and expensive lesson learned. I don't tend to forget those kind.

Who says at least they use Vaseline when checking the fluid level of your prostate.
Hrmph.

Excellent piece as always. So sorry about your tranny troubles. Hey, when I say it that way, doesn't it sound like you're having some sort of conflict with the neighbor who likes wearing his wife's lingerie? LOL

Damn (Reply to this comment)

They told me they needed to replace the "transmission" fluid in my 2004 subaru foretser turbo which I thought was a ripoff but didn't want them canceling the warranty, so they did it at 30k miles. I am glad there was actually something to do instead of getting ripped off!
I am a huge fan of manual transmissions myself and have written a few car reviews here on epinions of various types. I would certainly consider myself an enthusiast and cannot stand driving automatics. I've driven a couple of automatic "supercars" (~500hp) and didn't actually like them very much.
A nice piece, and easy as hell to read. Kudos on that, I enjoyed every last word!
No wonder you have such a huge WOT for so few reviews.
Best regards

and I had it for 3 years before I traded it for the automatic I drive now. I will admit I never once checked the tranny fluid, I guess I payed the shop to do that - good thing I trusted them so much, lol
Sorry for your car troubles :(

MORE POWER...AR AR AR (Reply to this comment)
by PaySo
I can relate, Lyn. I've gone through a transmission (or two) myself, and have been my own mechanic on many auto repair jobs. Now that I'm getting way more older, I opt for more experienced Mechanics for major work.
I loved having a car with *fifth* gear too. Saving gas and making the engine run smoothly as I gained speed was wonderful. BTW-THAT car is long gone :-(
Great to see your name pop up on my alerts today. I'll tell you like others tell me...hope to read more from you real soon.
Your OLD friend

You strike me as having a touch of cicada in you.
Glad to see you've come out of the ground.
Ook ook.
PS: They lie. A lot. It's pathological with them. Consider this a hard lesson learned:
Manual tranny fluid checks are much like prostate exams - they are uncomfortable, involve a finger insertion, but can help prevent much bigger problems.
