Started using CareCredit in early 2008. Had the balance to less than $300 when more orthodonic work was need needed in August 2009. The most recent dental work was under the 12 month no interest charged program, which should expire July 2010. Received my January 2010 Statement with "finance charges" added because I "had missed a payment". A call to GE Money was made. (keep pushing 0 until the message is received that you will be connected with a customer service rep - took about 2 minutes to get through to someone). The rep stated that I was 4 days late with the July payment - a payment that was due before the August dental work. GE Money terminated the promo program for the August 2009 dental work because the payment that was due in July 2009 was 4 days late. The finance charge on the new statement is an annual rate of 29.99% because I "have a poor credit history with them". Yes, I was late with the payment, and I paid the $35.00 late fee. All but one monthly payment made in 2009 was for more than the minimum amount due. But, that doesn't count. From what I was told, if a payment to clear the entire outstanding balance before the promo period ended was received even a day late after the monthly due date - a late fee would be charged. I have cut-up my CareCredit card and will use Citi Health Card if further dental work is required.
