Thanks so much for taking the time to write all of this. We, as consumers, deserve to know what we are buying and getting ourselves into. I have bought and returned several mattresses over the past few years as I was not informed as to what all of the "mattress lingo" (ie. coil count, euro top etc.) meant. And most salespeople will try to convince you of something even if you know it's not true. DO YOUR HOMEWORK and research for sure. So thanks again for posting this. Who but the consumers really can speak about the reality of the product.

The article was very informative and now I feel much more confident discussing the details of buying a mattresses.
The article has leveled the playing field by providing me with the means to make a more rational and intelligent choice and not just relying on the sales pitch of the salesperson.

OK Sue, spill it! What did you do? Fess up. Did they really nick you for 4Gs for that bed? For that price it should have come with a lifetime supply of Ambien plus dispenser.

about the warranty. I won't say what I did to get one company to honor their warranty!! But it worked and they were gong to charge me $100 to deliver the replacement mattress we chose! I threw a fit and won that battle as well. It was not FUN.
We spent $4000 on our first Beauty Rest with the pillow top and it had cavernous holes in 3 months. Hubby called it a torture chamber. The thing is, it can feel wonderful in the store but you never know how well it will hold up until you buy it!
Good review, so many people write reviews here on matresses that they hate!

You should publish this piece in a magazine or whatnot becuse of its broad appeal.
Yeah, I bought an emperor sized bed for us for just under 1800 for the whole set almost two years ago. I certainly don't regret that maneuver, but it was pretty spartan otherwise. The days of 500 dollar beds are over is right!

I know exactly what you mean, there is no just going out there and saying I will take that one. We got a new Mattress a year or so ago, and it took us forever. But, finally found the one we wanted, it was over $1,200, but likely my husband works part time for a furniture store and gets a major discount once a year. So that is what we used it for. No more Backaches for me.

Thanks. Yeah, pretty nice down here. Nice course at Boca Dunes. Did you know that they send their fairway turf out to be starched weekly? That ball sits up so nice and high doesn't it?

Well done (again). I like your idea of test driving a mattress at a hotel. I guess next time I'm on the road I'll call the hotels ahead of time and ask what kind of mattresses are in the rooms. Great idea!
