Pros: versatile, great features for a web cam
Cons: none (remember, this is a web cam first, a digital camera second)
The Bottom Line: Don't buy this if its a digital camera your looking for - buy it as a web cam

| metalmancpa's Full Review: Logitech Camera Family |
I've been searching for a web cam, and I have finally found one, the Clicksmart 510.
In 7 days, this is my 3rd try - first, I got an Ezonics MegaCam, and had many troubles with the drivers on my Windows XP computer. So I returned that, and got a Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000: loved it! The software loaded onto my XP system without a hitch, and in no time, I was creating video emails to send to my son @ college. Then, I figured he should get one so we could video conference, so I figured I'd give him the 3000, and get the Clicksmart 510.
I've seen various comments and reviews on this camera regarding the quality of the pictures. Remember - this is a web cam found in that section of the store. It is not sold or marketed to compete with a digital camera.
Here's what I love about this gem of a web cam:
1. The Logitech drivers and programs loaded with no issues on my Windows XP system. I was under way in no time at all.
2. The video email function is great - it compresses the video file (originally taken as a .avi) to an email manageable file size. On the other end, it opens as a windows media file.
3. The software is decent - MGI photo and video programs, as well as the Logitech video email program, which is quite simple to use. It has neat features, like the ability to create time lapse videos.
4. I can disconnect the camera, and take videos anywhere (need decent lighting). The camera comes with an 8mb smart media card, which can hold 40 sec at good quality, and 90 sec at a lesser quality. I had a 32 mb card, so I can get up to 4 min of video. Obviously, I can also take stills - the 32mb card holds over 450 pictures @ 640x480 (software interpolation to megapixel size.)
5. The base that the camera comes with provides good stability with it resting on my monitor - it adjusts easily, and keeps its position.
6. The camera body doesn't feel totally cheap - it has rubber on the outside which provides a decent feel when using it as a camera. It feels like quality.
If you are looking for a web cam to video conference and send video and still emails, you can get the QuickCam 3000, or another lesser one for under $100. If you want a web cam with versatility, and something to have fun with, this is by far the way to go.
