I always had good success doing the cleaning by using a dry cotton swab very carefully rotating it so that the tip was rotating downward and brushing the debris downward and away from the stylus tip. I would check it with a 40X stylus microscope that I managed to pick up some 40 years ago. Typically, the debris is dry and will simply flake off by the slight movement of the dry swab tip. I never did use any liquid and I know it was clean due to the stylus inspection scope.
Good review!
