The Bottom Line I'll supply the beer but if you want something harder please bring your own...

...scuze me...

SCUZE ME...

KEEP IT DOWN FOR A SEC PLEASE...

Thanks...before he arrives I think I’d like to say a few words… not that this will come as a surprise. Oh hey, thanks for the step stool Di… you’re right they come in handy.

Smorg, could you turn the stereo down? Thanks bud…

Spuds… come on man… take the Mr. Potato Head off my dog… Yes I agree it looks hysterical but the poor guy is going bonkers and thinks it’s a snack. Why you want to do that?

Melissa, please smoke that outside… nothing against it… use to do it myself… but, well I got a kid and everything now, and if someone calls the cops I'd rather not have it in my house…

The rest of you... if I can just have a moment...

(ehem...takes a sip of great canadian beer)
We honor a man who has become the cornerstone of our happy little group. The central hub if you will.
I could use many analogies but they all pretty much boil down to the same thing. He is the one guy who we all listen to, who we go out of our way to please because it pleases us.
Being around him makes our day just a bit nicer.

I joined ePinions in November. Seems like years ago now but it’s only been five months. Like many, I wandered through the party like a loner for a week or two, looking for a few like-minded people who would flock around me.
Notice I said flock around me. I always pictured myself as the central hub of whatever group I became a part. That’s because I’m an egomaniac. While I feel I have many peers, I think that I have very few “Superiors”.

I endured people telling me that my work stunk… some I respected ..Summer… I'm talking about you there, some I didn’t. Many times I wanted to tell them to “F- Off” in my comment sections. I became incensed at narrow mindedness in form and style, I put up with the message boards for all of 5 minutes until I realized that many people just use these to get in to arguments and I didn’t need the aggravation. I endured some of the most annoying attempts at “cute” catch phrases I have ever seen.

I got a little discouraged.

Soon afterwards I ran in to William Pinn. He taught me that you can be unique and have fun in your writing and still be respected. Now Pinn, don't blush... I learned a few things from you...
Then Herr Pinn linked me to another who taught me not to second-guess myself and to be patient and understanding of others.
We formed a triumvirate of sorts. We bounced ideas to one another, fed off each other’s comments and quickly got a reputation for hanging out together. Often the three of us would link our fellow amigos in our reviews and were almost always the first to read each other’s work. We were saddened by the fact that we lived several thousand miles apart and the chances on the three of us ever getting together for a beer were mind bogglingly bad.
Pinn and I were the tangents… we were the two that pushed the edges of normality… of reason… of sanity at times…

Our third was the rock. A very funny, very talented rock, but a rock nonetheless.

While Pinn and I were vying for attention, flexing our muscles and trying to figure out who was winning the good natured peeing match between the two of us, someone else was always there, laughing in the back ground, encouraging both of us and standing in our corners. Not even attempting to steal the attention… and asserting himself by his very support and quiet good nature.

You know those guys who only say something when they have something important to say? Those guys whom everyone listens to when they talk because they rarely waste their words?
He’s one of them.

His humility did not allow him to think of himself as a leader… and yet…

…Who did we ask advice from when we were uncertain… who did we always wish good stuff on…who helped us out when we were booted off the site for no reason and then compounded the mistake by creating a second moniker… who was the one guy who we weren’t jealous of when he was praised.

Who is the one guy who this still applies to… for all of us I think, who has remained constant and above reproach. And yet still funny… so very funny.
He instigated probably one of the most hilarious and bizarre comment threads I have ever read… he drops seeds and great things grow from them… his own reviews have a refreshing quirky humor. His jokes range from broad to so archaic that maybe only 5 people will get them but those 5 people laugh loud enough for the rest.

He’s my friend. I’ve never met him, never done much more than swap e-mails with him but he’s still my friend… better than some I see every week. He cares, he’s sincere, he’s honest and forthright and I consider him a superior individual.

I look forward to what communication we have and value his opinions, insight and humor.

He proves that there are some really good people on this site... and as I look around the room I realize that he also proves the old adage, "Like Attracts Like".

And so… in honor of his birthday I declare May 11th Richard KING OF ALL FISH Fisher Day and further more… what?… oh… OK.

Shhh… he’s coming… hide. Jam... hit the lights… I like your shirt by the way… nice to see that your hair grew back after that horrible trunk fire…
