I like the idea of a metasearch. The concept of trolling multiple search sites to seek comprehensive listings seems like the best, most time efficent use of the Internet.
But, the reality is not as thrilling as the concept.
Dpn't get me wrong, there is some distinct fun to had in searching several enigines. But, it seems to me that using a meta-search can consume quite a bit of time for rather limited results.
Many search engines that Dogpile hits are still somewhat unrefined. For example, if I am searching for "John Doe's Paintings" they could return a massive list of "John Doe's Paintings" 650 items, "John" 1,124,500,987 items, and proceed to run through pages about music from the musical note "Doe" and pages about female deers. It's interesting to run this sort of search but it is not particularly useful.
When using the web for entertainment purposes Dogpile works, but for researching something specific when I have limited time I prefer to use other enigines.
I've also found that some of the searches run off Dogpile time out rather rapidly.
On the plus side, if you are seeking a board range of information and you aren't really certain how you want to pursue the topic, Dogpile is a great place to start.
