I ordered a steel filing cabinet from TheNerds.net. It took two weeks to arrive, and when it did, it was clearly a scratch-and-dent special. The shipping box was not in bad shape, so it was obvious that the filing cabinet was damaged (in four or five different spots) before it was packed into the box. Also, there were two missing parts inside the drawers. I went back to TheNerds website, and there is no mention of the filing cabinet being a second, a return, or anything else.
My first sign of trouble was a meaningless "Trucking" tracking number that I received the day after placing my order. This tracking number had no weblink or mention of the shipping company, so it was useless. A week after placing my order, I called TheNerds, and some guy gave me the run-around, saying that the item was shipped by freight company rather than FedEx or UPS, and that the freight company would call me to arrange delivery. Uh oh.
So a week later (2 weeks after placing the order), I called again and this time a nicer lady named Priscilla put me on hold and went and dug up all the shipping info, and gave me a phone number to call along with the name of the freight company. That number transferred me to another number, and I was finally in contact with the freight company. The next day, I had the filing cabinet.
Being a metal cabinet, I was really worried about shipping damage, but the box was in pretty good shape. But inside, the filing cabinet had four dings in the metal in various places. One of the dings was pretty large, but luckily on the side. I looked at the box, styrofoam packing and cardboard inserts, and it was clear that the damage could not have occurred during shipping. The cabinet was damaged before it was boxed and shipped. Yup - I just bought a factory second.
My suspicion was confirmed when I opened the cabinet, and there were two missing parts inside.
Honestly, I'd start the whole return process if I thought it would be worth my time, but I have a life and would rather remain unsatisfied with this transaction.
