I decided it was finally time to update my webcam. Having already been in love with my QuickCam VC Parallel (just before Logitech acquired connectix) I researched the QuickCam Pro USB anywhere I could find a review, not being able to find heaps of information, I decided to make a go for it. I bought it online, and then waited nearly a week for UPS to deliver it.
When it finally came, I plugged it into my USB hub and Windows instantly recognized it and then asked for the CD, followed all the steps and didn’t even have to reboot.
Just wanting to play with all of the features, I opened Logitech’s program that is bundled with it that allows you to create videos and take pictures. It takes photos up to 640x480 in 16 million colors, not bad, but I don’t need that high of a resolution for a webcam. It has a button on the top that allows you to manually take photos, which is kinda cool, but I’ll never use it that often.
This one has a built in mic, which is really neat, because I don’t have to have an external microphone anymore unless I’m not making videos or using NetMeeting.
It also came with a tripod as well as the rubber stand and the little barrel that screws into the bottom to actually HOLD it into the rubber stand (unlike the one I replaced with this one) Rubber thing is holding screws, because the tripod was just so neat. It’s got a swivel base and allows me to adjust it anyway I like. And it doesn’t take up very much room at all.
I made a couple of test movies of randomness just to test the video recording features and the microphone. Wow.. that was impressive. I sent one to my boyfriend as a “hey look what I made” thing and he was able to open it and play it and even said it had good quality and sound, even if the thing was over a foot away from me when I was talking. It doesn’t sound muffled or like its in a can. My love for Logitech webcams will remain. I doubt I’ll need to “update” anytime soon, because this is everything I need and more. Its great for video conferencing and for quick video emails or whatever your imagination can come up with.
