So what’s the big deal with S-Video anyway?
First lets look at the standard video connector that comes with the GameCube.
Composite Video:
This round RCA video connector is called composite video. Composite video carries brightness and color on 1 wire. Your TV must then separate these signals before displaying them on the screen.
Now the S-video that comes with the Interact S-Video/AV cable.
S-Video:
The S-video connector is also round but has 4 small pins. 1 pin carries color, 1 carries brightness and the other 2 are grounds. Since the color and brightness are already separated the TV can devote more energy to the display.
So with that out of the way......
Cable Construction:
The cables seem solid enough, though I'm not really impressed with the thickness of the S-video cable. But, I have not seen any other S-Video adapters that are equal in girth to my monster S-Video that I use with my DVD player.
The flexibility is good and the cable length is about the same as the composite video that comes with the GameCube.
Picture Quality
The sharpness and clarity improved by about 30%. Defiantly enough to create a WOW factor. Text is easier to read contour lines are sharper, colors more defined, and details emerge.
Final Thoughts:
I'm not sure how to compare with other S-Video adapters as this is the first one I have owned. It may be that picture quality would improve even more. A thicker cable means more shielding and more shielding means less outside interference which means a better image.
