After being shuffled around several times by customer service, I never received the Christmas gift I ordered 10 days in advance.
My father said he would love it if he could have music that was composed by Max Steiner. For those of you who have not heard of Max Steiner, he was like the John Williams(Speilberg films) of his time starting out in the early 1930's composing scores for such great movies as King Kong, Gone With the Wind, a number of Betty Davis films and I'm sure hundreds of more. The list goes on and on.
Well, I found out that Max Steiner's music is rather hard to get a hold of. It seemed that I would have a better chance finding an LP vinyl rather than a CD. Of course I needed the CD and many places that displayed Max Steiner music on their website were out of them. For some reason the Max Steiner CD's are no longer being printed. Perhaps not many people care for his music.
But alas! I found a Max Steiner CD on the Tower Records website. Could they be my savior? Well, not exactly, more like a burden. Now I placed my order for this particular CD that stated on the website as being "in stock." The date I ordered it on was December 15th. I would think I would receive it by Christmas, so I thought I was in the safe zone. Plus, the website stated I would receive the CD by Christmas Day. When I received a confirmation email saying thank you for the order, the item I ordered showed a order status of "out of print."
I know these situations arise and decided to call them on Dec. 17th to confirm the Max Steiner CD was in fact, in stock. I was assured that the item was in stock and was to be sent out the next day on the 18th. Then, to my surprise, on the 20th I received an email saying my order had not been shipped yet, but it would be shipped soon. I called the next day asking about the status of the order. Again, I was assured that the item was in stock. I wanted to get this by Christmas so I had to upgrade the shipping time to "next day" out of my own pocket. I was assured that the order would go out on that very day, the 21st. I received an email shortly thereafter explaining that it "should be shipping today" but to call if no confirmation email is sent to me saying it has been shipped out. They also stated that the order was not shipped yet because it was just upgraded to "next day" shipping. What I don't understand is how saying you want next day shipping is supposed to slow the order process down.
Surprise again! No email, so I called Tower Records up and they said it was on "back order" and would be shipped out next week via next day air. I told them that the next day shipping was obviously no longer necessary if it wasn't going to come by Christmas.
I am disgusted with the way nothing seems to connect to the other in this company. One representative has one story and another representative or the website itself has another story. I would almost say I'm being lied to about this situation but I'm not an accusatory kind of person. So my whole reasoning is that they need to get their people together and update their website on items that are truly out of stock. They also need to check on these items instead of assuming that something is "in stock" when it is really not.
Merry Christmas?
