Pros: Large comfortable rooms, spacious casino, restaurants
Cons: None really -- except I can't seem to beat those slot machines!!
The Bottom Line: This attractive, high-rise hotel is a standout in Tunica/Robinsonville, MS. I've enjoyed my stays at the hotel both times and have always liked their buffets and slots!

Is there gold in "them there" slot machines? Well, I'm always hoping!
This 31-story hotel is rumored to be the tallest building in Mississippi. I can guarantee you it's the tallest building in the Tunica/Robinsonville area.
With 1,200 rooms, three restaurants, more than 1,400 slot and video machines, and 40+ table games, it's also one of the hottest, most attractive spots in town. Their comfortable and smoke-free Millennium Theatre features a variety of entertainment Thursday-Saturday.
The Gold Strike is the most impressive of the hotels and casinos in the area. Its huge flashing screen on the front of the hotel highlights coming shows and dinner specials. It's definitely the closest thing to Las Vegas you'll find in this small Mississippi gambling mecca. Don't get me wrong, everything in Tunica is dwarfed by Las Vegas, but this is the most glitzy hotel that Tunica offers.
I've been to the Gold Strike on a number of occasions to gamble, dine, and go to shows in the theater. I have been a hotel guest once before, as well.
Last week my husband and I went to the Gold Strike for his company's Christmas party. Of course, we had to spend the night.
Checking In
Our check-in at the Gold Strike was quick and simple. We parked in the covered garage, took the elevator down to the lobby and had about a 30-second wait before a clerk was available.
Our reservation quickly produced our non-smoking king room, the clerk coded two keys and we were on our way to the 21st floor. It was a non-smoking floor (I do appreciate that!) and our room was very close to the elevator.
The Room
I noticed a definite "golden" hue in our room at the Goldstrike Casino Hotel. The walls, the bedspread, the draperies, the bathroom fixtures -- they all had a gold tone to them. I was starting to feel the "Midas Touch" and hoped it would project its way down to the casino.
The room was quite spacious with a king size bed, armoire, entertainment center, writing desk, and club chair. There was also computer hookup.
The television was rather small -- I'd guess a 17-inch screen. Since we spent little time in the room it didn't really matter.
The bed was comfortable, the linens fresh and crisp, and there were extras pillows.
The Bathroom
The bathroom had a very small sink area, with basic toiletries (I didn't even bother taking or using them) on a fake gold tray. There was also a hair dryer and small coffee maker.
There were several fairly large towels, with plenty of wash cloths. They were quite sufficient for our brief visit.
It had the most shallow bathtub I had ever seen. (I'd guess it was about 15 inches deep.) I think it would be difficult to have much of a bath in it -- you certainly wouldn't have to worry about drowning! However, since I only take showers it didn't really matter. In fact, it made it a bit easier to step inside because it was so low.
Word of Caution: The Water
Tunica (Robinsonville, MS) has about the softest water in the world, so I never feel very clean after taking a shower. I always feel like there is soap residue. This is true of all the hotels I've stayed in there, not just the Gold Strike.
After my husband used the small coffee maker for coffee, he told me the water wasn't exactly clear. I guess some things I'd rather not know.
At any rate, I only drink bottled water while I'm there. If you've never been to Tunica/Robinsonville -- it is a small oasis of casinos in the middle of bean and cotton fields next to the Mississippi River. You do not go there for the scenery or the drinking water.
Food
We have eaten at the Courtyard Buffet several times. There is always a good variety of food: several meats, vegetables, salads, pasta, shrimp, crab, and some sinfully delicious desserts. (You see where I spend my time!)
The price is usually $7.95 for lunch and $9.95 for dinner. There are usually crab claws on the dinner buffet, but you can always find shrimp and steak. Friday night is a special seafood night and it costs a bit more.
Chicago Steakhouse
I've only gotten as far as the entry way and the menu here. The food is said to be quite good, but there is usually a wait and I never think about making reservations.
It certainly looks like you could not walk away hungry judging from a sampling of their menu items:
~ 20oz Ribeye $24.95
~ 20oz Porterhouse $29.95
~ 16oz Strip Steak $26.95
~ Twin Lobster Tails $57.95
~ Grilled Salmon Filet $21.95
Other Options
You can get breakfast throughout the day at the Atrium Cafe, served in a casual atmosphere. There is also a small food court where you can get pizza, burgers, or doughnuts.
Although we didn't try it, Room Service is offered during select hours:
Monday - Friday 4pm - 2am
Saturday and Sunday 6am-2am
Other Amenities
The adult-only spa has a heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi. There is also a state-of-the-art workout room and tanning bed available.
A certified massage therapist is available on weekends and by appointment.
Miscellaneous
~ Check out time is 11am and you have the option of
Express Checkout or in-room Video Checkout.
~ The casino operates 24-hours a day and there is a
non-smoking area upstairs near the Millenium Theatre.
~ There are several party/meeting rooms upstairs.
My Midas Touch?
Unfortunately, I found no gold in the slots this visit, but I did enjoy my stay. I spent enough time at the slots to entertain myself and to get comped for a lunch at the Courtyard Buffet before we headed back home.
Yes, I'll be eagerly watching the mail for those enticing coupons that will lure me back to try my luck again! Hope to see you there. Let me know if you have any questions.
Happy Holidays!
