| LynnSchneider's Full Review: KitchenAid Superba Dishwasher |
Last year, my old dishwasher went on the fritz (it came with the house and was 15 years old).
After doing much research in Consumer Reports, I happily trekked to my local appliance dealer and bought the Kitchen Aid Superba. This dishwasher was one of the top-rated dishwashers. Now that I've had it for more than a year, I can see why. It really is great. One year later, it is still quiet and cleans my dishes really well. I highly recommend this dishwasher.
Many Wash and Rinse Settings
The Superba has a variety of wash settings, from plain "rinse and hold" to super-hot, super-long "Antibacterial" (which I really appreciate, as the mom of two young kids). In addition, there are settings for delicate china.
My usual settings are "Normal" wash with "Sani-rinse" rinse cycle. This super-heats the final rinse water. I doubt that any germs could survive this cycle.
You can choose either heated drying or energy-saving air-drying.
The water is delivered to the dishes from several large "blades" that rotate water from the bottom, as well as a large spray nozzle on the top.
Many Rack Configurations
The Superba's racks can be configured in any number of ways. On top, you can toggle two of the racks at angles, or completely down flat. On the bottom, you can toggle one or two of the racks down flat, to accomodate large pots easily.
In addition, the top racks have little "o"-shaped clips for securely attaching stemware. There are also tension clips for securing lightweight plastic cups.
Food Grinding Filter
One advantage of this dishwasher is its food-grinding filter. If you are too lazy to wash all the ground beef off that plate, the Superba will ensure that it doesn't get left at the bottom of the dishwasher. In the year that I've been using this machine, I have never had any food debris at the bottom.
Stainless Steel Interior
The interior is stainless steel, just like some of the more expensive European brands. This has its advantages, because it will not stain from mineral deposits. One year later, the interior of my Superba still looks brand new.
Other Convenient Features
In addition to the features I mentioned already, the Superba has a "child lockout", a sensor that tells you when you need to add more rinse aid (like Jet Dry), and a sensor that tells you when the machine is heating up the water. That's right: if your water heater is not terribly hot, this machine will heat the water for you.
Another thing I like are the soft-touch controls. There are no protruding knobs or switches to collect dirt and grime, giving this dishwasher a sleek look. The LED lights also let you know exactly where the dishwasher is in its cycle. When the the washing and drying are complete, a distinct green light comes on.
Best Of All, It Is QUIET!!
My old dishwasher was really noisy. What a difference the Superba makes! You can actually carry on a normal conversation in the same room.
Worth the Money
Sure, there are cheaper models out there, but the Superba is worth every penny. It does a great job of removing even the yuckiest baked-on food, never leaves debris at the bottom of the washer, and is very quiet. What more could you ask for in a dishwasher?
