the caring pages for families with cancer. I think these support sites are so important as families tend to be not as close as they once were & staying upbeat helps get through those tough times. Thanks for the review, important info to get out there. ; )

Diana,
"How is using this website different from just emailing a mailing list of friends and family, and having them hit "reply to all","
Not a problem.
Being a "list owner" for a couple of email lists I am very aware of the number of people who dislike having emails "pushed" to them. Others would rather have the option to read only what seems important to them. With this site the "paitent" can review the guestbook entires whenever able, and subscribers can limit their use to updates of status.
Another thing I have found with "reply all" and even "listserv" pushed emails is that there are still a whole lot of people who are not all that comfortable in email use. They find that they either "dump" all ever so often, or miss the important ones. There are also a lot of people who would like the ability of "checking" a "blog" update (or even the guest book) while on the road.
Also, it is possible for someone like yourself to "mini-train" an "e-commo" novice through the process of setting up and maintaining the site. Email can be very frustrating to someone who is already worried about their loved one in an ICU. I know I would have liked to have had something like this available the last time I was in that position.
But what I like most is that either the paitent or caregiver can control both the "rumor" growth and the "subject" line of the "message" (forwarded emails can be "hijacked" or worse yet, changed, as they travel).
"Karen" in this review is a real person. She is widely known and respected throughout the world on a number of email lists. Those lists were able to post a single email notice for those interested and not lose her in the chatter of the daily list communications.
Hope this helps, and I hope it helps those you have to support on a daily basis,
Don

As someone in the healthcare field, I am always on the lookout for new resources to help my patients.
I am hoping you could clarify something, though. How is using this website different from just emailing a mailing list of friends and family, and having them hit "reply to all", so everyone can read everyone's responses and well wishes?
It would be a series of emails, instead of a blog, but otherwise I don't see the difference.
I do agree with you, that internet communication is a great way to keep groups of people informed, particular during major life events.
Thanks, in advance, for clarifying, and thank you for telling us about this service, in any case.

I must say, you write incredibly well. There are a few members out there that I wish I could just add again and again to my WOT just for the pleasure of clicking "TRUST" for them. You are one of them. I thought I did an OK job at bringing in things that are a little different than your typical epinions "it feels comfortable, it works well, it was fun" fare, but boy, you take it to the next level. I can't believe you only have like 60 people trusting you and you haven't been made advisor and TR in many more categories.
You seem like a person who has lived, who has so much to share. I said your son was fortunate to have you as a father, but I think we are very fortunate to learn from your wisdom and experience on epinions. If I ever had to pick someone to take me on a motorcycle tour with me as a passenger, I would most certainly choose yourself!
Many kudos from the bottom of my heart, and thanks for sharing!
Ciao

George,
Thank you for the comment.
I would like to think that this is the most important review I have written. Their helping good people do good things should not go unnoticed.

Sounds like an awesome use of technology (Reply to this comment)

I'm pleased you wrote this, Don, because I think Epinions members especially will be responsive to an organization using technology this way.
Thanks for letting me know about the organization by email. I plan to explore it more, but did note that give.org had assigned the organization's fiscal management high marks.
Well done.
Best,
George
