The direction for this month was to write a script with/about a phobic character. I came up with a few, wrote scripts for two others (not among these) submitted one to the contest, and posted the other at http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977056570 (I was able to add some pictures:)
The Stars that Played with Laughing Sam's Dice (sci-fi drama)
Far into the future a dying earth is being evacuated to a man made planetary vessel high in orbit, but an astrophobic man refuses to board the escape craft.
Set up: In the year 49995 the earth has dried up from solar warming, and most of the global population has died, loss of carbon dioxide has inhibited photosynthesis and there are no longer enough plants on the planet to support a biosphere.
Hook: For hundreds of years evacuation work has been spent on building a mini-earth vessel powered by a hydrogen fusion engine core that will propel the escapees to another solar system, but one man refuses to board the shuttle to the high orbital mini-earth vessel, as he cites an extreme fear of space, and the stars.
Resolution: The man is not swayed by the shuttle pilots pleading, and in parting he gives the pilot a pair of fuzzy dice.
Filthy Pigs in Love (revolting in any genre)
An Ablutophobic (fear of washing) man is shunned by women he seeks to date but a compromise is reached when he meets a pig farmess.
Set up: A past trauma suffered in a prison shower has left a young man with a severe fear of washing.
Hook: Having reintegrated into society, he visits a dance club seeking female companionship, but his body odor drives women away, and he even loses his job due to his odor.
Resolution: As a last resort he answers an ad for help at a pig farm on the outskirts of town, and a stinky relationship develops, as the owner of the farm is a sow princess.
Cat Heir and Fur Ball (comedy)
A woman with an unnatural fear of cats must visit her rich long lost relative (who is a cat lady) to be eligible for her inheritance.
Set up: Bernice, a struggling career woman who is deeply in debt, discovers a long lost aunt in a newspaper article detailing a crazy cat lady.
Hook: A reunion is set, but Bernice has cataphobia and during the visit must cope with all the cats for the inheritance reward.
Resolution: The reward is that she inherits all of the woman's cats.
Visiting Hours (drama)
A man suffering from domatophobia (fear of houses) and unhappy living outside finds that he prefers jail when a fluke arrest lands him there.
Set up: A family man who has a deep fear of houses has a hard time living in one and instead lives in a tent in his backyard.
Hook: He is arrested in a felony case of mistaken identity and incarcerated.
Resolution: When the error is uncovered and the man is released, he does not want to go, and assaults the guards who re-arrest and jail him.
Pick Any Priest (crime drama)
A family vacation is interrupted when their plane is diverted to Vatican City and they must spend the night there but the husband has an unnatural fear of priests, and goes on a berserk killing spree that sends the Vatican City into a panic.
Set up: Engine trouble causes an airliner to make an unscheduled stop at the Vatican City airport, and the stranded passengers are offered lodging at the Vatican Hotel.
Hook: One of the passengers has an unnatural fear of priests, and during the night sneaks out from his family's room and starts murdering priests.
Resolution: The Vatican is put on high alert and the Swiss Guard tracks down the killer, who commits suicide.
Cross of the Zombies (horror)
A border guard who suffers from leprophobia is convinced illegal aliens are carrying it, but comes to discover zombies have infiltrated the ranks of illegals.
Set up: A border guard mistakes minor skin irritations for leprosy, and is constantly checking the illegals for signs of the disease.
Hook: On Patrol she comes across a group of illegals that exhibit severe leprosy, but after her partner is attacked and bitten, he becomes a zombie.
Resolution: The border guard escapes, and returns to base with the news but no one listens because in the meantime there has been an outbreak of leprosy reported among the illegals, and the actual zombies are allowed to overrun the border.
The Time Stopper (sci-fi drama)
A scientist invents a time travel device, but his first human test subject turns out to be chronophobic and refuses to return from the past, and in order to stay there he targets the scientist, and himself - - for murder.
Set up: An astrophysicist modifies a tesla coil with a free energy engine that folds space-time and creates a time tunnel in the process.
Hook: An assistant is sent through the passageway (with a two way radio that inexplicably works) and comes out back a month into the past, and when instructed to return, he refuses citing an intense fear.
Resolution: The assistant sets out to erase the discovery, and portal; but everybody gets stuck in a time loop that goes on forever.
The Fear of God (sci-fi fantasy drama)
An Apeirophobic (fear of eternity) deity cannot stop his own existence and in his resulting madness he creates a universe.
Set-up: Alone in eternity God slowly develops a fear of forever.
Hook: He repeatedly attempts to take his own life, but does not succeed.
Resolution: God goes stark raving mad and in the resulting chaos a space-time universe is created.
Prank Therapy (dark comedy)
An opportunistic sham psychiatrist nurtures the phobias of his patients and makes a documentary of their suffering; they are none to pleased and ban together to give the doctor a phobia of his own.
Set up: A fly by night psychologist sets up a phobia treatment center.
Hook: He repeatedly subjects his patients to surprise attacks that invoke their phobias, for a laugh.
Resolution: The patients band together and throw him out the 11th floor window giving him a fear of heights.
The X-Rated Zombie Virus From Outer Space (sci-fi horror)
When returning astronauts infect the station with an insidious alien disease that creates libidinous zombies, a Nasa scientist's phobia of microbes saves his life, and he devises a plan to fight the horrible orgy.
Set up: Astronauts land the shuttle and are taken for observation when they collapse on the tarmac.
Hook: During examination the astronauts emit a blue gas from various orifices that when breathed turns the victim into a lustful brain-eating living dead zombie.
Resolution: When a bacillophobic scientist realizes that his respirator has kept him alive and human, he lures the lascivious mob of undead into the alternate shuttle and launches it into space.
