I LOVE my iPAQ

Written: Dec 26 '01
Pros:Great color, good applications availability, easy to use
Cons:Battery life seems short
The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend the iPAQ H3635 to anyone looking for mobile computing capability.

I LOVE my iPAQ. Back in early 2000, my company gave me a Palm Vx - which I used almost on a daily basis. Then in September of this year, I went to a Compaq seminar. I stuck around for the whole seminar, completed a seminar evaluation form, and ended up winning a Compaq iPAQ 3635. Its certainly not something I could have ever afforded to go out and purchase for myself, but since I wont it, I figured I would use it. I can honestly say, I love it. The color screen is easy to see. The applications availability I find very extensive. The multimedia capabilities, and expandability make it much more usable than my previous Palm Vx. Its nice to be able to be driving into work and think about something, and record it into my iPAQ. The 3635 comes with 32MB of memory out of the box, but adding additional memory is a snap with memory chips. The price of chips coming down makes that an even easier upgrade. I purchased a 32MB upgrade (for my wife's black and white iPAQ - which I swapped for my Palm with someone at work) for $29.95. The iPAQ came with factory installed Word, Excel and MS Money (which I don’t use). I have been using the Word and Excel in conjunction with my desktop PC files. I can create documents on my desktop system, and store them on my iPAQ for later review (or modification). I find this extremely useful for school documents. I use the calendar and contact functions right along with the same functions in Outlook on my desktop (and can synchronize them with the same functions in Yahoo). No matter where I am at, I have access to my current calendar and contacts. When I get into work in the morning, I plug my iPAQ into the sync cradle, and it automatically updates (synchronizes) information with my desktop system. Somewhere down the road I can see though, my wife will want the color version also.
