Pros:big, beautiful, plenty to see and do, lots of fun, food is great
Cons:expensive
The Bottom Line: Atlantis is a must-see and do for anyone looking for a well-rounded vacation.
Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas is without a doubt the most wonderful place I've had the fortune to visit for vacation. What can I say that hasn't been said before? It's very grand, beautiful scenery and landscapes. Plenty for people of all ages to see and do and you never have to leave the resort. I was there for 8 days and didn't even get to see everything.
You can't imagine how big this resort is until you arrive to see the Royal Tower in all it's grandeur. We stayed in the Coral Tower, which is the next step down from the Royal Tower in both price and accommodations. However, the Coral Tower was not shabby in the least. The room was clean and comfortable. Our wet bar was fully stocked every day. The service was good. The food at every restaurant in which we ate, as well as room service was excellent. The view from the room was just gorgeous.
Some of the cons were as follows: 1) Very little privacy. For honeymooners or couples wanting a romantic retreat, this is not the place for you. There are lots of families and people of all ages everywhere you go. The only way to "get away" is to hike up the beach aways and pick a spot away from the resort to snorkel, swim or just sunbathe. 2) The "native" islanders who hassle you as you walk by. This may be due to the fact that we were two young girls by ourselves so the guys were a little annoying. However, even if you are a family, you will be hassled by the many women and girls trying to braid your hair for money or trying to sell you necklaces and other trinkets as you venture throughout the days. 3) The pricey prices of everything. From food to drinks to souveniers, this destination is not for the penny-pincher. You will spend money, and lots of it, whether it be in the casino, in one of the many restaurants, on room service, or at the night club on drinks. There are also many shops to buy clothes, souveniers, and decorative items.
One tip I can definitely recommend is to bring a bathing suit or at least shorts and a tank top in your carry-on luggage. Check in is 3:00pm, and chances are, if you take an early morning flight, you will be waiting to check into your room for a long time. At least you will be able to leave your bags with the concierge and take a quick dip or a stroll around while you're waiting. We didn't and had to walk around in long sleeves and long pants after coming from a cold climate, which was no fun!
As for the pros, there are too many to name. Beautiful weather and sunsets, great watersports, nighttime activities, lots of wildlife to admire, great shopping and good eats. You will not leave Atlantis bored, unsatisfied...or with any cash! But you will leave with wonderful memories and anticipation of returning sometime in the future.
