Oh cool, that would be really neat :)

I really do think graphic novels are a fantastic form of reading for all kinds of people. I'm in the middle of a few graphic novels right now and they're all so different. It's great to have words and illustrations to use.

Thanks for reading, and let me know how that paper goes!

It's nice to see someone take comics and graphic novels seriously. I'm an English major at UAlbany and for my master's thesis I'm going to write a book arguing comics as literature. I might just reference your essay in it!

Now, now, I'm sure Frank Miller could pump something out for children if he really wanted to... yikes, that seems scary.

Thanks for the comment. It seems to me like graphic novels appeal to a slightly different audience in kids and teens. It's imperative that young'ins find something to read that they will enjoy so they start reading NOW. There've been several occasions when I'm trying to help someone find something to read and just when I'm about to give up on them we somehow always manage to make it to the graphic novel section. You're right... when all else fails, give them a comic book!

perspective Laura. Sure, why not? Anything to get children to love reading. So long as they stay away from Frank Miller's stuff, that is :o)

I definitely don't doubt it! Sometimes that's all some young adults are interested in. I remember some of my first graphic novels I bought along with several classic comic books. You just can't beat that :)

Thanks!

My point exactly... whatever it takes :) Yeah, I've found it kind of difficult at first when reading the back to front Mangas, but once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy. And young adults pretty much seem to be able to adapt right away.

You may have your son look at the "Shonen Jump" magazine. It's a subscription that has several stories in it, and it's read back to front.

Thanks!

Wow, what a compliment! Thanks, that really means a lot. I've been reading graphic novels for a few years now and have noticed the spike in interest with people who often aren't interested in reading at all. If this is a tool that not only interests me but helps promote literacy, my attention is held. They're really fun and great to read. Thanks for saying I'm interesting and complimenting my writing as well, that makes me feel great!

Sage Advice Indeed (Reply to this comment)

Many years ago my son was having difficulty with reading in school. I told him I would buy him as many comic books (which is essentially what graphic novels are) as he would read.

He jumped from a few grades behind to a few grades ahead in no time.

Loved this piece!

isn't a big fan of reading, but I am happy to say that he has read all the NARUTO graphic novels from back to front!

(and yeah, they actually are from back to front).

I wish he read like I did as a kid, but if graphic novels and video game guidebooks get him to read, thats good too.

Great review and great title!

This was a nice piece and I enjoyed it. You write very well! I've heard of graphic novels but didn't know a lot about them, so I found this very informative.

I also noticed your profile changes - thanks for sharing that info. I had no idea you were so interesting! ;)
