Z_Jeep,
Sorry to hear of your heartbreak. DishNetwork is superior to Cable and Satellite competitors in EVERY way. However, the DishPlayer is Echostar's NIGHTMARE that won't go away with over 200,000 of the stinkers still out there.
DishPlayer was an innovation: The first sat box and hard disk recorder; the Echostar engineers appeared to have triumphed again. Without going into great detail, the major flaw and 90% of why DishPlayer stink is because of MICROSOFT. Yep, Bill Gates strikes again.
Dish's new generation 501 (the even dropped the tainted "DishPlayer" moniker for "PVR") has some flaws, but is significantly better. Also, the soon to be released 721 is the 2 tuner, 100GB (about 120 hours capacity at the highest compression)with a LOT of features should be the culmination of all lessons learned. Oh, and Echostar was so ticked at Microsoft's lax attitude at fixing problems that Echostar now writes its own software for their own products. That greatly speeds up the fixing of any bugs.
