Pros:Lots of features, lightweight.
Cons:Quality problems.
The Bottom Line: If you MUST have a Nextel, buy the i50sx. Otherwise, get a Nokia!!! These are full of defects.

The problem with Nextel phones used tobe that compared to a Nokia or Panasonic product they were plain ugly and bulky. With the 85s Nextel finally has an up-to-date looking phone.

This unit has a lot of features, such as a calculator, datebook, several games, and voice notes. It is also capable of recording up to 20 voice tags. The 85s is also equipped with a speakerphone. It is a data-capable phone, and if you subscribe to one of Nextel's online packages you can use the Net as long as you wish without incurring airtime charges, for one flat fee.

Unfortunately, this phone has had more than its fair share of quality snags.Overall, I am not a fan of Motorola products, and this one - even though the problems have not reached the epidemic proportions of the i1000+ - confirms my opinion. Lots of software glitches(for example, phone locks up when DATEBOOK is selected), poor batteries (check for the "FURTHER PROCESSED IN CHINA" label), bad charging blocks, and speakers that fail within a month.... As someone working in the cell industry, I am really tired of replacing defectives!

uPDATE 06-05-02. No, the quality issues with these phones are notas widespread as with the i1000. They are MUCH, MUCH WORSE!!!! In all honesty, the whole Nextel product line is full of defects. On top of that, Motorola seems to not inspect phones that come back to the factory and has been replacing defectives with more defectives. Typical customer complaints are "Will not charge", "Charger incompatible" or "Battery runs down in an hour".

In general, Nextel sucks.
