85i Not What You are Looking For (Reply to this comment)
by joelblaylock
This phone has lots of problems. One dealer finally admitted it was a hardware problem...sadly she wanted me to pay $2.50 monthly and keep having the phone replaced. I don't call that a good service plan. The 50i is a much better phone and the radio feature is all that makes the Nextel service attractive.

Re: The story of my life (Reply to this comment)

I am experiencing a similar problem with the i85s and multiple chargers. Mine is just slightly older than 1 year so the ruling from Nextel Customer Care is that it is considered normal wear and tear. The expense to repair is mine. After repair, the threat of the same failure and lack of reliability will continue to worry me.
What kills me is that after just a little research and talking to the local Nextel dealer revealed that this is a well known design and quality issue with many of their customers. Although very unlikely, Motorola and Nextel should own up to the problem and do the right thing.

The story of my life (Reply to this comment)

This review is excellent, and completely sums up my Nextel experiences. I have had great luck with the service, but the phones are terrible. I had an i1000plus, sent it back and got a "serviced" broken one. Then I get an i85s. It locked up, did the incompatible charger deal, and battery life went off the deep end after 6 months. To top it off, Nextel tells me the battery is out of warranty because it sat on the shelf too long before I bought it (14 month warranty from date of manufacture.

Constant problems... (Reply to this comment)
by jchaven
I have about 100 i85s phones. They are probably the most poorly created piece of electronics I have ever used.
Nearly all phones exhibit the "Incompatible Charger" symptom -- and support is impossible. I have had success getting a phone to charge by taking the battery out and moving the SIM card around -- I suspect increasing contact. But, Nextel and our local rep claim that would not work.
I hear rumors of Nextel losing their patent hold on the 2-way technology. When (not if because eventually they will lose it) they do lose it we will be dropping Nextel and these crappy Motorolas!!

Re: Firmware (Reply to this comment)

Datebook can be easily selected from the menu. Yes, you can synchronize it with Outlook, you need a data cable and a software download from motorola.com/iden.
I have not done it myself, since I do not use Outlook as a matter of principle (DOWN WITH MICROSOFT!!!). The datebook I use constantly.

Firmware (Reply to this comment)

Did you try to make the firmware changed? Usually this solves stability problems.
How did you find the datebook feature? What are the possible views? Can you synchronize the phone to MS Outlook?
Thanks,
Imre
