The Good Movies Write OffOct 01 '07 (Updated Dec 01 '07)The Bottom Line The Good Movies Write Off: 148 entries 37 entrants 148 good movies for you to choose from!! The Good Movies Write Off A conundrum I had was solved by this write off idea. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't like to post a long succession of movie reviews that are all 4 or 5 stars - after a while I think it makes me look like I have low standards or simply rate things higher than I should to get more money or whatever. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean you don't all think what I think you're thinking. Anyway, this lead to a problem - I recently bought a load of movies that I wanted to see, and after having watched most of them, I realised that I liked every single one of them (proof of good taste! :-D). However if I review them all now it would mean a string of ten or so 4 or 5 star movies. So, to counteract this, I came up with a write off idea. It's very simple - any 4 or 5 star film for which you post the review in October is eligible for this write off. Just email me the link or leave a comment with the film title and url, and I'll add it to the list. Genre: Any Year of Release: Any Cast: Any Director: Any Closing Date: 31st October [EDIT - 30th November!] ------------------------- OKAY IT'S OVER NOW!! ------------------------- [Additional Rule #1] The only thing is it must be a movie - or maybe a movie double pack - but no TV shows. It just wouldn't feel right. (Sorry WC Mark...) [Additional Rule #2] Incidentally, made-for-TV or straight-to-video movies are fine. [Additional Rule #3] Right then, entry number 12 made me think about this - documentaries are okay to enter! (Hadn't thought of that one...) [Additional Rule #4] If by chance the film you want to review has already been reviewed, by all means still enter it. I'm not listing author by the review links, so that film will appear more than once in the list. Anyone who's just read this bit will not be confused by that!! ---------------------------------------------------------- I don't promise to read, rate, and comment on every single review that's entered - this is because I hope there'll be a lot of entries. The list of entries can serve as a standing example of what movies we Epinionators like and perhaps a launchpad for anyone wanting to watch a new movie but stuck for ideas. Just so you get a taste of the movies that have caused me this problem (and which I hope to review before the end of the month), here's the list so far - I think! [EDIT - also includes some more, mostly ones I've seen recently at the cinema or will be seeing and expect to be 4 or 5 star movies. Of course if they're not I'll take them off the list!! :-D] I Capture the Castle (Bill Nighy, Tara Fitzgerald, Romola Garei, Rose Byrne) - 4 stars - DONE We're No Angels (Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov, Aldo Ray) - 5 stars - DONE Court Jester (Danny Kaye, Basil Rathbone) - 4 stars - DONE Spirited Away (anime fantasy) - 5 stars - DONE The Terminal (Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta Jones, Stanley Tucci) - 4 stars - DONE Grave of the Fireflies (anime set in World War 2) - 4 stars - DONE Ratatouille (animated ratty adventure) - 4 stars - DONE Stardust (fantasty starring Charlie Cox, Claire Danes,Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro) - 5 stars - DONE Nancy Drew (detective comedy starring Emma Roberts) - 4 stars - DONE Enemy Mine (Dennis Quid, Lois Gosset Junior) - 4 stars - DONE Big Business (comedy starring Bettte Midler, Lily Tomlin and Fred Ward) - 5 stars - DONE Brewster's Millions (comedy starring Richard Pryor and John Candy) - 4 stars - DONE The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (wonderful comedy starring Hugh Grant, Tara Fitzgerald) - 5 stars - DONE ------ So, anyway, if you want to enter, you know what to do. Please include a link to this page and the words "Good Movie Write Off - " followed by the title of the movie in quotation marks. If you don't you'll grow crow's feet. Or something. Including the words "CaptainD is the Greatest!" in the text of your reviews probably isn't obligatory. But it might be...
